Tompkins beats Bennett (Democrat); Arroyo the elder winning that probate sinecure
By adamg on Tue, 09/09/2014 - 9:15pm
Unofficial results from Boston, the 800-pound gorilla of Suffolk County politics, show acting Sheriff Steve Tompkins easily besting challenger Doug Bennett (and the other guy who didn't have as many signs), while one-time City Councilor Felix Arroyo holds a commanding lead in the race for Register of Probate over incumbent Patricia Campatelli (currently running third behind Arroyo and Martin Keogh).

Does any one have a good
Does any one have a good suggestion on how to re-purpose those Bennett signs that are so ubiquitous all over Dorchester? I am trying to come up with a good idea, but I haven't found one yet...
Should he support his run for Pope, UN Secretary, what else?
Make a boat and a sail
Place Bennett on the boat and push off.
Survivor
Don't forget to put Campatelli on the same boat. Only she might punch Doug in the face.
Art!
Say what you want about the guy, and believe me I've got a lot to say (I might even take some back if there is proof that his grandfather was actually abandoned at the State House), but those signs are AWESOME. That's how he got 10,000 votes. I want one of those. It's a Bennett original.
Of course, we can all breathe easier that the other guy won.
Those 10,000 votes
probably represent a great deal of TouchFM's listeners. Clemons was very vocal about his support for Dougie, birds of a feather and all that.
All that matters now is that's it's finally over.Dougie is almost assuredly finished in local politics, and all it cost him was his job, his marriage and his dignity.
But
Losing over and over again never stopped Althea and Roy. I have a feeling that we haven't heard the last of him unfortunately.
Lose his Dignity?
Ha. He had none to begin with.
Most of them are re-used old
Most of them are re-used old signs for other candidates (no joke), so you could just flip them over and re-use them all anew.
I want to thank
Doug for his signs. They provided much needed humor to drivers stuck in traffic on the Xway or at red light's on Dot ave. He should take this experience and use his unique artistry as a guerrilla marketer for yard sales.
Is this the whole shebang?
or is it a best two go to November? I was never clear on that question, but perhaps we can get another 6 weeks of Sheriff Bennett to kick around?
Tompkins is the Democratic nominee
So Bennett's only option would be to run a write-in campaign.
Partisan office?
Thanks, I had assumed county offices were similar to city offices, and not partisan. Was there even a Republican candidate?
Yes but getting voters to drag their plywood, hand painted
ballots into the voting booth will be a logistical nightmare.
Be afraid
With 94% of the vote in, Dougie got 10,450 votes. Think about it. 10,450 people actually voted for him. Be afraid. Be very afraid.
Oops
This was the bostonglobe.com story on the Arroyo win, at least until people started alerting editors that's the wrong Arroyo:

Alleged journalism at the Globe
The sad thing is that the young college grad who pulled this picture doesn't know the difference between the Felix the father, Felix the son, and Felix the cat, and never heard of any of them.
Felix the cat , the wonderful
Felix the cat , the wonderful, wonderful cat !

But seriously, Felix any relation to this guy ? Luis Enrique "Tite" Arroyo, (born February 18, 1927), is a former major league baseball pitcher.

The Globe is a disgrace. It's
The Globe is a disgrace. It's time for educated adults to start running this newspaper instead of clueless interns. Where are these future 'journalists' studying and who is teaching them? Fire them all! Pathetic.
Would you want to be in a dying industry?
The Globe clearly is only hiring morons who think they'll someday be called up to Buzzfeed or the HuffPo.
The Globe hasn't been relevant
since it coordinated the destruction of Boston schools 40 years ago.
Oh please.
Because the schools were so freaking awesome, especially the ones full of non-white kids where no one in charge actually gave a sh*t. You think Southie High would be Newton North if only the big bad Globe hadn't been in the desegregation camp?
Southie High
was a shining light on a hill. Destroying neighborhood schools was akin to burning down your neighbors house because it was better than yours.
That explains
... the illiterate missives from pre-desegregation graduates of those schools emanating from certain parade groups and local newspapers.
If anyone engineered the demise of the Boston Schools 40 years ago, it was a school committee that continued to funnel resources into white schools at the expense of minority schools as the courts repeatedly and tirelessly shot down similar bigotry in other cities during the previous decade.
An elitist
orgasm.
Truth hurts, doesn't it?
Truth hurts, doesn't it?
You have the indignation
worthy of a republican.
Please!!!!
Oh, please, TAKE DOWN THE SIGNS!!!!! I am so sick of those signs! I think there were people who didn't vote for Bennett just so we didn't have to look at those signs for 8 more weeks.
Or maybe it was all those other reasons why one would never vote for Doug Bennett.
Final count for Not Sheriff Bennett
11057. Now take down the friggin signs Doug.
How many here
Could not even vote for against Bennett? How many critics here are veterans?
Hi Doug!
I voted against you yesterday. I also told your idiot out front what I think about you. I am not a veteran, although I'm not sure why that matters.
Hey, Doug!
Why not just use the "DotRat" handle you used to trash Tompkins in the Herald the other day?
