Oh, come on, it's not even Halloween yet, and we've still got all this pumpkin-spice coffee to drink

Eggnog in October at Somerville Whole Foods

And we're still drawing down our pumpkin-spice supplies. R.S.Y. Buchanan reports seeing this Christmas drink today at the Somerville Whole Foods. Or as he puts it:

Dammit, tryptophan induced coma comes first!

Not if we can help it!

Actually milk and eggs have more tryptophan than poultry.

It's time we ended this "the tryptophan in turkey makes people sleepy" myth once and for all. People should really know better by now. Cheese contains more tryptophan than turkey for heaven's sake, and no one ever says "this cheese really makes me sleepy".

There have been shovels, snow scrapers, generators etc. in my local supermarket for a month or so. Madness.

Skip the pumpkin spice, though. I get the full-fat nog and froth it (with one of those $2 IKEA whipping things), then add the coffee.

Also good: half egg-nog/half whipping cream, whip it up the same as whipped cream and use it for apple and pumpkin pie after you eat your local TLF insurgent.
