Boston.com writer now free to pursue other opportunities after that Boehner story

John Henry's media company has shown boston.com associate editor Victor Paul Alvarez the door after honchos woke up yesterday to that story that boldly asked if anybody would notice if John Boehner actually had been poisoned, a source says.

In a tweet this morning, Alvarez let a picture tell a thousand words: He posted a photo of the underside of a bus.

Meanwhile, Dan Kennedy reviews the whole imbroglio and proposes boston.com be recalibrated again - this time from a millennial-geared clickfarm to a Boston-based A&E guide.

That's gold, Jerry.

Actually, the comments/replies on that tweet are gold.

How no one takes responsibility. He wasn't thrown under the bus. He was the editor. The buck stops with him supposedly. Own it man! It was your fault. What did you think would happen?

His title was "associate editor." As I mentioned yesterday, I'm not familiar with the exact job roles of boston.com employees, but "associate editor" is one of those impressively vague titles that could mean almost anything - except being in charge.

Of course, until this happened, the powers that be wouldn't even disclose who was in charge at that "news" website.

So by using that line of thinking shouldn't they have fired Hilary Sargent, too? How does she still have a job but not this guy?

not sure how this is 'being thrown under the bus'.. I mean.

You had one job to do, and you didn't do it. And you lost? how's that being thrown under the bus?

Sorry, Victor, it's your job. you knew the article was being posted, you approved of such story, you even allowed it to be posted, and you're wondering why you lost your job? Boy I wish I had a bridge to sell you......

BDC really is hiring the brightest... *snort*

And on a different note, if this was sent to be published, makes me wonder what is on the cutting room floor at BDC...

makes me wonder what is on the cutting room floor at BDC...

Nothing?

headlines like

"Obama's Hidden Circle Jerk Room at White House"
"CLICK HERE FOR NANCY PELOSI NUDE SELFIES"
"What Charlie Baker wears for underware"
"Inside John Bohner's Tanning Room"
"How congress pays for Mitch McConnell to be embalmed daily"
"What it feels like to be Ted Cruz's butt plug"

Please tell me where I can pay $9.99 per month to subscribe to your news site.

I don't get this pattern of firing at all. How does Alvarez get canned but not Sargent? They both put the "news" site in position for libel lawsuits.

Remember what McGrory said: Boston.com is the Boston Globe's biggest competitor or some such nonsense. What a joke.

White female privilege = WFP

Ahaha, I was right about this guy, what a thing.

Not sure I would agree it was his responsibility. There's no "editor" at Boston.com since the last guy quit last year, after just 4 months on the job. So, who says, "It's a print!" when a writer submits a story? I don't this guy's job, though - it's possible he was "editor in charge" when it was posted - I've seen job listings for Boston.com where they mention overnight editors, etc.

Having said that - IS EVERYONE AN EDITOR OVER THERE?? Hiliary Sargeant was one, too, if I remember correctly.

Everyone at Boston-dot-completelyuseless is an assistant editor, just as everyone at Mickey D's is an assistant manager.

At least at McDonald's you get some training when you are given that title.. usually some McDU book training.

BDC... I think half of these folks just fell off the turnip truck.

I believe the job posting mentions 'self-starter', and a 'fast paced' environment.

The person they'd hired to do some sort of advertising sales.

Adam, can we do a kickstarter or something to try to raise the money to just buy out boston.com and give it to uhub? I mean really - what better for the domain of the city but to be a site which gives news about named city.

that could be opening a huge can of worms for Adam.

I like the update to his Twitter bio:

My last boss said - It’s very difficult to hit the epicenter of tasteless, mean-spirited and humorless in one fell swoop - He's right. I'm to blame. No excuse.

He basically seems to have spent the day saying "sorry." That takes some discipline.
