Renovated BPL wing opens in Copley Square
By adamg on Sun, 02/22/2015 - 1:50pm
The BPL formally opened its revamped modern wing at the main library in Copley Square yesterday. Whitney Wilson loved the new children's library.
Greg Cook also toured the updated wing:
The first thing you notice about the renovation of the second floor of the Johnson Building at the Boston Public Library’s central Copley Square branch ... is the color.

the poor folks of Back Bay and Beaon hill are suffering indeed
Meanwhile they're closing branches in the poorer neighborhoods....
They are?
Like which branches, specifically?
Eastie?
Technically Eastie went from 2 to 1 libraries in the last couple years, but the new one has more books than the other two combined, is more centrally located, and is a beautiful new building, soI don't think that counts.

BPL is not closing any branches
The Boston Public Library is not closing any branches in any neighborhood.
Copley Sq. BPL is the central
Copley Sq. BPL is the central library... it's not a neighborhood branch. Check it out for yourself!
All that non-gray must make adherents of
modernist architecture cringe.
And I'm good with that.
Very comfortable!
I walked around yesterday - it looks great! Lots of comfortable space to sit and work, read, etc. A lot of thought went into the design. The teen and children's rooms look really inviting, as well as the general reading room.
I'm interested in the way the library blends old and new -- the original building, with the art, reading rooms, art, etc., are very classic and the new sections are very bold and bright. I think it's the right balance.
The central library draws kids & adults from all over the city (as well as tourists, visitors, etc.) and this gives a really good message about being a comfortable & useable space.
Map exhibit
BTW there's a fun exhibit in the maps room right now - maps from book illustrations.
Hope being negative-I love libraries
Just wait till all the homeless get inside and ruin the place.
