Thumbs are back for now

I've reactivated the thumbs on comments, but have made voting stop four weeks after the post they're comments on has been published. Will be watching the server today to make sure they don't crash things again (if they do, will have to turn them off again).

The "Track" tab under an individual's profile is currently empty for me. Hoping that hasn't all been lost and it's just a bug squish away...

I asked about that in the post declaring thumbs dead temporarily.
The data table that populated that list for each user was wiped out in Adam's attempt to restore the database's good behavior.
Why not
Why not limit thumbing and posting to registered users? We may miss anon's random potshots, but it would solve this issue, wouldn't it?

Anon insiders of value
Not that there is a culture of retribution inside the T, BPD, development, schools etc., but insider information from people in the know is invaluable. We could miss out on much of it if they had to register and fear getting identified.

Why would registering create any more risk than posting anonymously? If Adam were to snitch, he could just as easily share an IP address tied to an "anon" post as he could provide from where a user registered. Though I do see the (let's call it) stupidity risk causing someone to accidentally post self-identifying info under their insider login (or their Superman login, so to speak) when they think they're logged into their Clark Kent account.
It comes down to whether you think the 1% of useful anon posts are worth 100% of the site's functionality being hamstrung. Of course we're dealing with hypothetical situations, so our hot takes on this issue might not be entirely relevant if the thumbs can be removed from just anonymous users.

I totally get not wanting to talk about your employer or landlord or certain people like that from your "own" account, or sensitive info like medical or financial situations. I've posted anonymously when I wanted to share info that I didn't want tied to my identity.
What if the site policy was changed so that Adam only approved anonymous comments that add to a post? Like, if someone adds information about a story, or a first-person perspective, he could approve it, but if it's "hurr hurr you're dumb" or something, he wouldn't?
I definitely value the anonymous comments that are people claiming to work in a certain industry, or people who say they witnessed something or know someone involved in a story. That's the kind of stuff that UHub has that other sites don't, and it's awesome. But I think we would do without the pissing matches, the name-calling, the racism, and so forth. Including from registered users. I'm a member of one discussion group where the policy is that anything that doesn't add to the discussion gets removed. It's at the sole discretion of the owner, and it seems to work.
