Seems Fallout 4 will be set in a post-apocalyptic Boston. BGR takes us on a tour and compares some screen caps with the pre-devastation sites they're based on.

What sort of apocalypse is our fair city post- in this game? Nuclear? Pandemic? Or the IOC just skipped town and the bills all came due at once?

The Fallout series takes place in a post nuclear-war world. Very uplifting game. I played the first one a fews years back and it was actually pretty fun.

I'm not a fan of post
I'm not a fan of post-apocalypse stuff so watching this made me uncomfortable especially with the setting.
Would be more interesting for me to see GTA-like game set here with a believable modern day setting.

Well, if it plays like the original Fallout 3, it'll just be partially-collapsed subway tunnels with the occasional train lying in ruin, blocking your path. You can generally get where you want to go by walking through the tunnels, though.
So, lower frequency on the trains in the post-apocalyptic wasteland, but higher passenger throughput.

Elevated artery behind Bunker Hill Monument!
Loved seeing the old elevated artery behind the Bunker Hill Monument! Makes sense, since the apocalypse occurred in the Fallout series in a retconned 1950s/60s. Gave me just a little bit of nostalgia for our long lost other Green Monster!

I have to wonder if the retro-futurtic setting with the point of divergence is set that the 1950's point-of-divergence timeline with a 50's view-of-the-future aesthetics and means the big dig never happened so we'll see the elevated highway instead. From the video, they actually have Scollay Sq rather than Government Center.
At the same time, I can also see lore-wise that the Big Dig still happen despite some elements kept. I can also see design-wise that having that tunnel existing would be a cool level traverse. Same thought perhaps for the West End too...
PS3
I use my PS3 for online streaming and DVD watching. It appears they will not make this game on the PS3, only the PS4?
I actually played Fallout3 all the way through (there were a few games inbetween 3 and 4 I believe). Pretty fun game.

They're pushing you and others to buy a PS4, basically, Pete. It would look better on the newer machine, as well. Don't tell me their technique has no effect on you? Tried and true in video games since 1983!

I'll probably hold out on getting a PS4 or Fallout4 and I admit I don't follow the game industry as much anymore. But it did seem that they were still releasing games on older platforms like the PS3 for a while anyway.
And I too have been a gamer since the early 1980s! I remember riding out to Child World in Dedham on my bike and getting Donkey Kong for the Artari 2600. Almost as great as taking a trip to the Fun and Games in Framingham, or getting Adventure (2600) out that way on the same trip!

I can scarcely believe that later, Child World became a Circuit City, and that I can't even remember what is there now.
My cousins were more into Commodore, and that led us to PCs, since that was considered more productive! And thus my path in life was set.

Yup! same here. My parents were very anti video games.. more because they saw it as a money pit. My dad was fairly computer literate (for the 80s), so he realized that steering us toward computers was a far better thing than steering us to video game machines. So we got our first Commodore 64 in '83 and a then C128 in '87. And that let me to Macs and PCs in the early 90s, and a career shortly after.
I was lucky I guess.
I had both. Not a C64, but an old Apple, then the Apple IIC. I used to love those old random games. I had these two games from some educational software company in Minnesota about duck hunting, and controlling the deer population in a neighborhood. Man great memories I would play those things for hours.
