Graduating from being urchins to productive members of society?

Waifs and urchins in old Boston

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can figure out what's going on in this photo and when and where it was going on. See it larger.

Unless it was just the style in those days, they all seem to be wearing some kind of boots, if that's any clue.

I got nothing here....

Looks like they are all waiting for the gates to open at the Boston Garden for Wrestlemania I

That is how elementary school graduation is supposed to be.

... awaits them at the top of the stairs.

Thanks for playing, folks! This photo was taken at the Dover Street Bathhouse in 1899 and is in the 1899 Bath Department report. The caption says, "Saturday Morning at the Dover Street Bath." We don't know precisely what's happening here, but its likely that these children are waiting to be admitted to the baths. The baths included "gymnastic apparatus," a handball court, and a running-track, in addition to bathing facilities. Two days a week, the entire building was reserved for exclusive use by women and girls.

We all know about L Street, but who knew theses things were all over the city back in the day?

Thanks. That was the toughest one published yet.

That was back in the day when it was cool to leave large potted plants on the stairs of an exit.

Boy Scouts at (old) City Hall.. maybe 1910ish (Since there's electric lights)

It's the Group W bench at the old Selective Service office at Summer and D Streets.
