Man roughed up by guys with machetes in East Boston

Police are investigating an attack on a man at 144 Chelsea St. around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday by as many as four other men, two armed with machetes and one with a knife.

Had no idea this section of Chelsea Street was gang infested with machete's, Eastie needs to raise rents quickly, to rid these scumbags, if homeowners don't, this shit will continue on.

What if these kids were from another city/town. What makes you think higher rents will solve the problem. Check the crime rate in the suburbs, Chestnut Hill, Milton, etc it is everywhere. ..you can run but you can not hide.

Yes, because people will be lining up to pay an exorbitant amount of rent in a building where a machete attack happened.
Though when are these attacks ever random? I think in general, the mugging rates are some of the lowest in the city. I honestly care more about litter in the area than these sorts of (unfortunate) isolated incidents.

Higher rent and property value increases in Charlestown, Southie and places like West Roxbury prove that with higher prices it does solve and reduces the violent crime situation. It's a tool or tactic East Boston should be using,

what you're proposing is simple gentrification that would also force out more upstanding, non-machete weilding citizens than you expect, and of the 'criminal element' present, it just forces them elsewhere. ghetto-izing the city, essentially.
I understand you might believe poor people to be untrustworthy and generally bad and you don't want to look at them, but this requires deeper societal solutions than 'YAY GENTRIFY EVERYTHING'

I'm willing to bet the rate of violent crime is higher in South Boston than East Boston.

I have had two drive by shootings, a couple of stabbings, and a host of other violent crimes on my street since I moved to Chelsea several years ago. Was it random or directed is what matters to me the most. 99% of the time it's directed at someone (gangs, drugs, prostitution, etc)
And like you, I'm more upset over the trash than I am the violence really.
(of course these also make for blood draining from face stories for my country bumpkin family members who question why I still live there)

I'm no outsider by any means, my ancestors arrived in Eastie in 1877 according to my families historical genealogy records, they resided on Eagle hill, long before the big wave of Irish immigrants , they remained in the same house up until 1902 then moved on to Wayland Mass that is where many generations of my extended family tree remained and still do, but I decided myself to move to Eastie because it's where I want to reclaim my roots, a sense of belonging , if you will.

I'm talking to fellow owners to do just that! :-) Our streets are slowly getting cleaner, safer, and our schools starting to perform better all within the last 5-10 years. I say continue the changes if these are some of the results! :-) Yes Please!
