A more modern battle re-enactment
By adamg on Mon, 10/12/2015 - 7:29pm
Most of the battle re-enactments around here feature guys with muskets, some in red coats, but Redsox223 watched a World War II battle re-enactment in Stow yesterday, put on by the Collings Foundation.

caught the brass in the air!
caught the brass in the air!
small correction, adam.
although collings was flying his stearman out of minuteman airfield (due to a cease-and-desist by the town on his own airstrip), the event was held at the Collings Foundation on barton road in stow.
Fixed, thanks
What got me was the name of the event: "Battle for the Airfield."
Just sayin.
From the website, "Will the Allied troops be able to gain control of the airfield? "
If I was there in my Heinz Guderian uniform, the answer would be, "Nein".
it's confusing...
...but it's Colling's airstrip they are always battling for, not Minuteman. extra confusing this year because Collings has to fly his planes out of Minuteman due to a town-wide legal clusterfuck regarding his property and his collection.
World War II re-enactments feel creepy to me
especially if the 'German' re-enactors wore Nazi uniforms, which they'd have to do to be historically correct.
yeah
its better that we forget history instead of feel rightfully uncomfortable about bad things that happened and maybe continue to learn from the past
the confederate ones actually make me feel cozy since they only represent systemic kidnapping, slavery, and oppression that continues today
now the red coats actually arouse me because theres not much more i enjoy than symbols of imperialism and subjugation
History is icky and
History is icky and uncomfortable. Let's forget and ignore it. It's not like that will doom it to being repeated as tragedy or farce.
Why?
The vast majority of German soldiers were in fact Wehrmacht. Nazi uniforms not necessary.
they do wear Nazi uniforms...
and they do their best to be historically correct as much as possible.
if it makes you feel any better, the game is rigged. Collings told me that the Nazi's never win the battle on Sundays. sometimes they win on Saturday, but never Sundays.
