Maybe they'll pour out a flagon of mead at King Richard's Faire: Medieval Manor closing up
Update: Interview with owner Don Akin.
E-mail from Medieval Manor on E. Berkeley Street went out yesterday: The middle-ages dinner show is closing forever on Dec. 31:
After 42 years and nearly 13,000 performances we will be closing our doors this December. By New Year's Eve well over a million of you will have shouted "Long live the King!". We hope many of you will do so once again. Or maybe even twice.
You have made and accepted marriage proposals on our stage, gathered family members to share a laugh in times of need, been willing to ask for permission to visit Canterbury and when asked to put a loaf of bread between your knees you rose to the challenge.
The Medieval Manor building, once about as close as one could get to the middle of nowhere within sight of downtown, is now in the middle of a luxury-condo building boom.

I went there once many years
I went there once many years ago and had a great time. I remember having to ask to go to "Cantebury" and my friend didn't ask so she was punished.
I think the group you go with makes it fun. I went with a very lively crowd.
I had no idea this even
I had no idea this even existed. If I did, I totally would've gone. That portion of E. Berkeley might also be the only street in Boston Proper that I haven't been on. So that makes sense.
Used to be in the basement of
Used to be in the basement of the Hotel Eliot , on Comm Ave almost at corner of Mass Ave....
You still can...
still open.
I was wondering when this was going to happen.
It's located in an area which is being gobbled up by luxury developers. I'm waiting to hear about someone trying to buy Pine Street Inn.
yup
I was just thinking this too. How long before the building is torn down or converted to "Luxury" condos.
There's also the whale storage building too.
I'm waiting for them to offload their building, tear down the whales and put up apartments.
Pine Street is about 12 years
Pine Street is about 12 years into a 99-year lease with the city. The only thing that'll drive them out will be the Atlantic ocean.
From your link
"10/15/15, 9 a.m.: This story has been updated to clarify that rising sea levels may occur anywhere from 200 to 2,000 years from now."
That ain't driving them out.
Plus pine floats.
Plus pine floats.
I wasn't aware of that, & am
I wasn't aware of that, & am surprised by how relieved I felt reading it. We can't spare any shelter beds, and that probably won't be changing over the next 87 years. Thanks for the info.
They'd have to put up a sign
'If you lived here, you'd be homeless'
such a shame. the boston
such a shame. the boston rocky horror shadowcast i'm a part of goes every year, and it's something i really look forward to. i knew this was inevitable the second the whole foods opened. hooray gentrification.
maybe
Maybe if you went more than once a year it wouldn't have to close.
Bingo
Nailed it.

Cathedral Station next
There aren't that many undeveloped parcels left heading down Washington and Harrison. Could the Cathedral Station bar be next? They have that huge parking lot and tiny building sitting on top of a gold mine.
I was told they had a 5 year lease
And it was never meant to be a long term thing. Just the management and staff sticking it to the former owner of Fritz. Dont know if that's true, but it would make sense. The lot is worth far more than the rent the space could command.
It would explain why they never really did anything major with the place when CS took over.
Hmm
I did not know that.
I do know one of the owners tho. I should go pester him.
They did SOME improvements.. but not much.
Oh yeah, didn't you work for him?
Or am I thinking of someone else?
You will never get an honest answer though. Bad for business. No owner wants to tell his customers "thanks for your loyalty, we have another 3 1/2 years"
JimGaffigan
okay now it's annoying me that I don't know who you are ;) (or you wont reveal yourself to me LOL). It's clear you're one of my friends.. or someone who knows me pretty darn well. I think I can narrow it down to one of five people.. but can't narrow it down much beyond that.
No, you're correct. I did work for him at an other business venture he had a few years back.
But yeah he probably wouldn't tell me, but it's worth a shot. Sometimes you can talk to him at the right time and he'll tell you everything he knows.
Better ask soon...
I talked to one of my friends who works there who said the lease is very short term. WTF they just opened!! The next time you see him tell him he runs a terrible bar. Seriously, it's awful. Ok, maybe it's a step up from the Eagle and the rotting ship Jack runs over there. Now that could be a great bar with the right management. Maybe someone will take over and turn it into a real Eagle a la New York. Seedy bar + great music + hot guys in Boston? A boy can dream.
boston.com ripped off your headline
John Henry is really running a tight ship over there:

If a tree falls in the forest...
Is there anyone left over there paying attention?
Except the guy with the 500 screen names still claiming Romney in a landslide?
All you can drink
The appeal of that place back in the 80's was that you could drink as much as you wanted (or as quickly as they filled your mug.) The one time I went, I took a nice girl and she got totally blotto and threw up all over herself in the car on the way home. Good times.
it's still like that. i've
it's still like that. i've never left there anything even remotely resembling sober. ;)
Musta been a nice girl
a wench could have held her liquor.
