Once again, Roadrunner loses key backer in push for official state rock song
By adamg on Wed, 11/04/2015 - 9:46am
State Sen. Bob Hedlund won election as mayor of Weymouth last night. Hedlund was one of the two sponsors of a bill to make Roadrunner the official Rock Song of the Commonwealth. The last time the song was up for the honor, its main sponsor, state Rep. Marty Walsh, got himself elected mayor, too, and the measure died.
The other sponsor of this year's bill, David Linsky, is from Natick, which doesn't have a mayor.

Yawn.
This effort is frivolous.
And get off my lawn!
This frivilous effort
is another example of how bass-ackwards our lawmakers are. If "Official State (insert anything here)" is deemed important enough to mandate a law, it should be decided by the people through initative petition.
But of course, here in Massachusetts, we reserve the initative petition process for truly complex issues that the average person dosen't have a clue about.
Not Exactly
We reserve the initiative process for things the elected officials are too scared to bring up themselves. I'll vote for any politicians who runs on the basis of addressing redistricting, campaign finance, voting process, etc. But of course this would be bucking the system they don't dare touch it. The only hope is via an initiative.

Is there anything Linksy can't be a blowhard time waster about?
double dip?
Nothing says you can't be a mayor and a state senator. Has Hedlund announced intentions to resign from the State Senate? In The People's Republic of Cambridge we've had a few double dipping state reps/city councilors.
Double-jobs?
The former Mayor of Lawrence tried to hold onto his Statehouse job and be Mayor....and for awhile he was insistent he could do both.
He was shamed out of it, and resigned his state position and was only mayor.
What other people tried "double-dipping" as you stated..?
Tim Toomey has been both a
Tim Toomey has been both a State Rep and a member of the Cambridge City Council for over 20 years.
Adam loves that damn roadrunner song.
I for one, simply am not a fan.
Carry on.
Maybe
Maybe unlike you, Adam is in love with Massachusetts, and the neon when it's cold outside.
And the Stop & Shop
With the radio on.
Meep meep.
Meep meep.
Who owns rights to the song?
If it becomes the official state song, surely free use will be permitted by everyone in the state.
