So what's the YTD count
for homicides in town?
Hovering around 40.
Hovering around 40.
Too high
Way too high,
Condolences to all have suffered losses due to violent crime this past year.
Compared to what?
Sure, 40 sounds high but it's lower than the average over the past decade and only about a third of the average in the 90's. Or compare to Baltimore, a smaller city than Boston, with 333 homicides to date so far this year, almost 10 times per capita. http://chamspage.blogspot.com/2014/12/2015-baltimore-city-homicidesmurde... .
Is this some sort of contest?
Cripes
That's actually incorrect.
That's actually incorrect. Boston has 89 sq miles and Baltimore has 92 sq miles. However the big one here and the most important is the sq miles of land in each city. Boston has 48 sq miles of land and Baltimore has 81 sq miles of land. I think we'd be having a different conversation if Boston had an equal amount land miles to Baltimore. And by default most homes near the water are priced higher therefore you're able to control e.g. gentrify the minority population.
Area means nothing
The closest thing is per capita, so population is key.
In any event, Kerpen has a point. Even if this was the only murder this year, it's really shitty for the family and friends of this guy. Rest in peace.
So Sorry
So Sorry
so
heartbreaking. That family has had more than its share of loss. Hope they have lots of support around them.
Please young men stop killing
Please young men stop killing each other. No beef could be that deep that you need to take a life. That mother or your mother don't deserve this! You hurt whole communities. Society won't care unit you care. We all need to step up and help these young men, clergy, police, community leaders, mothers and fathers.
His poor mom.
I can't imagine how devastated she must feel, or how frightened his brother must be, knowing three men-- or boys-- in his family died so young.
