How will you commemorate One Boston Day?

April 15 is our new holiday, the annual celebration of the "the resiliency, generosity, and strength demonstrated by the people of Boston and those around the world in response to the tragedy of April 15th, 2013."

Tax Day is Monday the 18th this year, due to the holiday of Emancipation Day in DC on Friday.
In Massachusetts (and Maine), we get an extra day, until Tuesday the 19th, for hopefully obvious reasons.

I don't go for this stuff. I hate "Boston Strong" and wonder why grown people need a special day to remember this.
There were many acts of bravery and heroics on that day and the goodness in people overwhelmed the evil that was done. But please, Boston isn't special, and isn't unique compared to other cities.
People around the world deal with this stuff every day and many act just as bravely as the ones in Boston. Many even more so. But we seem to have a need to "celebrate" our specialness.
Now excuse me as I go yell at a cloud.

I think commemorating tragedies through a memorial is important, because remembering history is very important for all cultures, in commemorating those lost and remembering how easy it is for bad things to happen.
But I find some of these memorial events to get to be grandiose, to the point where I feel they may inspire and encourage more evildoers: "Not only do I make the big impact of my (whatever attack) in killing and destruction, but I get 2 years' worth of nonstop media coverage, an annual holiday commemorating my destruction, probably several feature films, and a landmarked memorial that's open 24/7 for tourism."
On top of that, if the (insert attack here) has been piggybacked to some every day event like air travel, a marathon, etc, they get the satisfaction of knowing that everyone participating in a like event will be inconvenienced by intense security screenings of varying efficacy.
We do need to remember events and work to prevent them from happening, but we need to be careful that as a society, we are not glorifying them, either.

"Boston Strong" is hilarious. Our city was brought to its knees by two amateurs. What the hell happens if an organization with resources, smarts, and skills decides to attack?

The Friday that week I had to drive my wife to work at 7am. Needless to say, we didn't check phones/TV/radio at 6:30am. It was the easiest and eeriest commute ever and I got a sense that something was up as we drove through Belmont and it seemed completely deserted. Brought to our knees indeed.

I was shocked at how people just folded as soon as the shelter in place "order" was given. I refused to be a prisoner in my own home and decided to step out.

If the man pictured in the still under the headline had decided to run for President, we would not be enduring this craziness associated with the current campaign. He would have won the Democratic nomination by now and the Republican "race" would have been irrelevant.

I thought we'd all just shelter in place because Ed Davis told us to. Boston - where civil liberties are freely surrendered when there's one bad guy unaccounted for.

The despicable act on the day is so sad. May these souls rest in peace and the perpetrators rot in hell. Just as sad is the behavior of the police and their illegal searches of homes. Patriot's day. How ironic that the redcoats were present once again.

God bless the victims. Having heard the two explosions from my home, I turned on the police radio and had a pretty good idea of what was happening. Meanwhile, at least two veteran Boston TV anchors recklessly speculated, "Since it's April 15th, 'Tax Day' we should consider the possibility that this atrocity was caused by conservative anti-tax groups." I hope Mark Wahlberg includes this in the film.

Why not just combine or make Patriots Day/Marathon monday more official than adding another holiday people wont get the day off for?
