Five-story apartment building proposed for Belgrade Avenue at West Roxbury Parkway

The Bulletin reports the Bellevue Hill Neighborhood Association meets Wednesday at 7 p.m. to discuss a possible apartment building on the site of a long abandoned gas station on Belgrade Avenue at the parkway.

The meeting will be held in the E-5 police station.

I look forward to the hysterics that will surely follow.

It probably shouldn't be more than three stories. If it can be placed back from the road the corner can maintain an open space feeling IMAGE(http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk143/nfsagan/Capture%20Belgrade%20Ave_zpswrknxqdq.png~original)

Geez.

At the rate these developers are going, pretty soon every postage stamp piece of land in Roslindale, West Roxbury, JP, and anything within a 5 mile radius of Roslindale Sq will have housing.

It's needed but at market rates?

Pretty soon it will be like downtown Boston.

Watch... the selling point will be Transit-Oriented Development. The selling point will be the train station at McCraw Street and the bus to Forest Hills to the subway.

Has anyone also noticed the commercial developers that are circling and diving in like hawks to the kill buying up commercial blocks all over from Westie, Rossie, and Hyde Park, raising the rents and kicking out long-time businesses.

People in the area have been screaming "gentrification." What else does the city need to prove this?

Wake up!

raising the rents and kicking out long-time businesses.

Let's see....in this case these evil developers are going to replace a nasty corner that was last a gas station maybe 10 years ago (and nothing since.) No one would want a business in that location and it's surrounded by busy roads, so setting it aside as a "park" is just silly.

If someone wants to build there to replace a former gas station and people want to live there within walking distance to 2 commuter rail stations and innumerable bus lines, I say go for it!

It seems a bit tall at 5 stories but they probably do that knowing they'll need to lop off a floor to address neighborhood complaints.

I can see this lot from my front yard. I totally agree with this statement. It is better than what is there now and they are probably aiming high on the floors knowing they will have to come down a bit in size.

I think they mean the empty building where Newport Cleaners and that old dusty packie was, across the street from MJ, er... Stash's Pizza.

Or maybe the auto dealer which was ripped off by fellow West Roxbury denizen Ponzi-scheme operators and then closed?

Or maybe it's the formerly vacant pit between Lords and Ladies and the railroad tracks?

I wonder if anyone besides the developer will be in favor of it.

There was a real-estate broker who attended a couple of the hearings on the Lagrange Street Memorial Firetrap project who kept talking about how the Lords and Ladies apartments were just fine and how she'd love to have a place where she could have her mother live nearby (she was, naturally, met with an immediate hail of verbal tomatoes about how, of course, she'd approve, she's a broker and who the hell is she to have any opinions when she lives clear on the other side of West Roxbury, etc., etc.).

If this continues we'll have to change the name to West Allston!

This is currently an abandoned gas station. If they can develop it into an apartment building more power to them. Near the train too.

How will I remember to vote for the Healey/Hillenbrand ticket in the fall of whenever they run again?

BUT:

It's too tall!
The shadows!!!
What about the traffic!?!?
It has too much parking!
It doesn't have enough parking!
We don't want more kids in the schools!
We don't want childless millennials ruining the neighborhood!
We prefer an abandoned lot!
