Good thing it's going to rain today
Maybe that will reduce the fires or at least their severity?
BFD photographer
Needs a flash. Every fire picture on this page is just a big black square.
Flash has its limits
If it's an external flash (more than a built-in flash) of good power and has a hefty battery to match you might get some added illumination out to 35-50 ft. But don't expect to light up the whole scene without a lot more equipment, which I doubt the BFD photog is carrying with him.
Just A Little Bit Of Photoshopping Can Make A Big Difference
The photo captures the inherent dangers of a career
in firefighting.
Biggest inherent danger is filling in for a sick superior ..
Boston Globe had an awesome writeup back in the day on the oddly high number of BFD members who suffered career-ending disabilities in strangely solo/unmonitored/no-camera settings while filling in for someone out sick who just happened to be a pay grade or two higher up in the chain.
... because the rules allow them to take the disability pay or pension that matches the temporary position they were working in at the time the injury occurred.
Yeah it may just be a few bad apples but those apples are freakin' procedural ninjas when it comes to pension and disability fraud. I'm legit awed at the creativity involved -- lots of time, effort, thinking and rulebook readin' put into these scams.
Or if it is not fraud then BFD members need to start saying no to sick time replacement shifts - those seem super super dangerous!
What is this, 2010. All
What is this, 2010. All those rules have changed but thanks for bringing them up after a night of three fires that displaced 60 people in three neighborhoods. One company, Tower Ladder 10 responded to all three of those fires from Jamaica Plain and is the company that threw that 50' ladder in the photo. What a dick!
No, it's not 2010
But have all the folks who cheated under the old system paid back all the money they stole from us, the taxpaying public?
