Sometimes, you just need to see cows

There's only so much keyboarding you can do on a warm porch, so sometimes you just have to shut the lid on the laptop, gather the family and drive down to Crescent Ridge Dairy in Sharon for some ice cream and cows.

Adorable!
Peaceful Meadows
Peaceful Meadows Ice Cream in Whitman has cows too!
Gender neutral
Huh, I should probably get out more myself - I would have said that was a bull.
It does look worth the drive, either way.
Could be
Where I come from, cattle were kind of rare.
It's a heifer and (maybe) a cow
The black animal looking towards the camera is a heifer - ie a female bovine that has not yet had a calf.
You can tell it's female because it doesn't have a set of balls hanging down (bull) nor does it have a small pizzle sticking out from the low point of its belly (steer aka castrated bull calf).
You can tell it's very probably not a cow (a female that has born at least one calf), because her back and belly are still tight and high, and her udder is undeveloped.
The animal in the back is definitely female too, and it looks like she might be a cow - there's a bit of sway in her back, and her jowls have the look of cow, but without seeing her nethers it's impossible to tell for sure. So she could be an older heifer too.
It makes sense that they would be heifers if the animals are being grazed in an area near/accessible to visitors - heifers are generally calm and friendly.
Lovely!
I go to Allandale Farm to get my local bovine fix, though since the two shaggy black beasts that I remember as calves have grown into massive animals with lethal-looking pointy horns, I'm happy to watch them from a safe distance. Still, pleasant country smells and sights, especially with the beehives and turtle-filled pond right next to them.
Despite the horns....
... they are still pretty friendly:

Can't see the pic!
But I believe you. Still, I get queasy at the thought of even an inadvertent head toss that might take out my eye. So big, so pointy...
I had the best banana boat
I had the best banana boat here. definitely worth the drive from Boston.
