The new new wing of the BPL in Copley Square formally opens today
By adamg on Sat, 07/09/2016 - 10:18am
Boston Magazine takes us on a tour of the renovated Johnson wing of the main library in Copley Square.
Dante Ramos talks to the two architects who oversaw the renovation - who answer the question of why Johnson hated the windows BPL insisted he install so much that he covered up the first-floor ones with what looked like bomb barriers.
The BPL itself has a lot of photos of the new wing's original construction in the 1970s.

BPL doesn't have proper facilities for hard-of-hearing and English learning folks. Librarians must be certified and accredited by top-quality schools of Library Science. Think of the benefits!...

BPL needs more books, DVDs, and resources with American Sign Language.
They have a few ASL dictionaries from the 70's, and the movie The Hammer (which is good) - that's it.
They don't have any videos to learn ASL. They keep the few crummy ASL dictionaries with the books on childhood development. There should be ASL materials beside the Spanish, Arabic, and Mandarin learning materials.
Deaf children need Deaf role models. Late-deafened folks need access to ASL learning materials.

“I am in the process of starting a series of listening sessions, initially with internal stakeholders, and then over the next couple of months we’ll broaden that out to members of the community and other important input, and I think that will feed then what our strategy over the next three, five, maybe even ten years will be.”
