It's official: West Roxbury residents will have to drive into Dedham for chain burgers a step up from McDonald's
By adamg on Wed, 07/13/2016 - 4:53pm
Boston Restaurant Talk confirms that Burger Fi on Spring Street is now well and done: Those "closed for renovations" signs should really read "closed until we sell the place."
That leaves the Dedham Five Guys as the closest non-McDonald's/Burger King chain outlet to West Roxbury.

BU West location likely "permanently closed" as well
Per the article, "don't get your hopes up" about the BU West location of BurgerFI reopening. At least the nearby UBurger is alive and well.
Business?
Hmmm. Every time I went by that burger-fi was always crowded. If the closed while doing brisk business, well....
Love UBurger, but their prices keep ticking up... (Still miss their Tremont st location...)
Thoughts and prayers
.
BK
Has a perfectly acceptable double cheeseburger on the value menu.
5 guys is comically overrated
BK?
De gustibus non est disputandum, I guess. The only thing I don't like about Five Guys is how loud the music always is.
Never left hungry from a Five Guys
The two locations I go to always have that Sirius music playing full blast. The fries are the real reason I go - their burgers are great too.
Five Guys isues
They make a decent burger, have excellent fries, and how can you go wrong with 10,000 soda options? That said, they are way over priced for what you get, and in my opinion way over hyped, as well. But then I grew up in L.A., where an excellent burger can be had for less than $3, and you rarely have to go more than a few blocks to find one.
Gets good mileage
I always squeeze the grease out of my order of fries and put it in my biodiesel truck. Or you could heat a modest single family house with it for a week in the winter.
But wait.... Forest Hills can rescue the West Rox sufferers...
Grass Fed at Forest Hills does fantastic burgers... Both simple and fancy, on the bun and in the grass, with fries and onion rings that make you wonder why McD and BK get to call what they sell "Burgers"....
Okay... I admit it, I'm a food snob. Forgive me!
You can even get a real FRAPPE with your moo.... or a beer....
Gross-a-roo
Grass fed burgers......ewwwww. BK, yes please.
Hmm ...
Do you by any chance know what cows actually eat when given the chance?
Burger
Then why is the place so pretentious with the Grass Fed name? No need to have ridiculous adjectives in an attempt to compare their horsemeat to BK. I was a Mobile Machine Energy Dispensary Technician when I was 17. Or should I just say I pumped gas.
Because most cows aren't actually fed grass anymore
They're fed corn, which irritates their stomachs, which leads them more vulnerable to bacterial infection, which causes farmers to dose them liberally with antibiotics, which is horrible for a number of reasons.
But, hey, no reason you have to eat there. More table space for the rest of us.
Does grass-fed beef have any
Does grass-fed beef have any heart-health benefits that other types of beef don't?
Answers from Rekha Mankad, M.D.
Grass-fed beef generally comes from cattle that eat only grass and other foraged foods throughout their lives. Often, conventional beef cattle eat a diet that includes grains, such as corn, at some point. The difference in the diets of the cattle changes the nutrients and fats you get from eating the different types of beef.
Grass-fed beef may have some heart-health benefits that other types of beef don't have. When compared with other types of beef, grass-fed beef may have:
•Less total fat
•More heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids
•More conjugated linoleic acid, a type of fat that's thought to reduce heart disease and cancer risks
•More antioxidant vitamins, such as vitamin E
Lean beef that's 10 percent fat or less — whether it's grass-fed beef or another type of beef — can be part of a heart-healthy diet. Although many people think grass-fed beef tastes better, it's generally more expensive and there is limited long-term research to definitively prove that grass-fed beef is better for you. Talk to your doctor or dietitian if you're thinking about adding more lean beef, including grass-fed beef, into your diet.

To clarify
The grass is fed to the cows, not to the burger :-)
What does "in the grass" mean
What does "in the grass" mean in the context of serving a burger?
On lettuce
It means on lettuce, no bun.
Oh, how sad.
Oh, how sad.
Back in the paleolithic
We had no buns
We also didn't have toilet
We also didn't have toilet paper or penicillin. I'm happy not to live in the paleolithic era.
Also
Not as close, and sadly located in hell village (AKA Legacy Place), we have a shake shack too.
And don't forget b.Good
Which is local and better than Shake Shack (same gripe as posted above about Five Guys).
The Shake Shack in Chestnut
The Shake Shack in Chestnut Hill is actually closer to me at my end of West Roxbury.
And if I have to pick a chain, I like SmashBurger. Their SmashFries are thin sliced and tossed with olive oil, rosemary and garlic. Their "local" burger is made with cranberry stilton and grilled onions.
b.good isn't bad either.
What about non-chain places
What about non-chain places that serve burgers? Any good diners or cafes?
Porter Cafe
burgers in westie
The best burgers this side of the Charles River are prepared at The Corrib Pub. Corner of Centre and LaGrange. You do not have to drive to Dedham or anywhere else to get a delicious upscale burger cooked to order. The Corrib is wonderful in every way. Food great. Prices Right. Lots of bang for your buck.
The Corrib burger is the gold standard against which I measure all burgers.
