Small plane crashes near Norwood Airport
Around 3:20 p.m. off Peartree Drive in Westwood.
State Police report:
The pilot and his passenger were extricated from the wreckage by members of the Westwood, Canton, Dedham, Norwood, and Walpole Fire Departments. The pilot, a 65-year-old man from Newton, was flown by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The passenger, a 77-year-old man from Norwood, was transported to Norwood Hospital for treatment of serious injuries and was subsequently flown by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation by the aforementioned agencies as well as the National Transportation Safety Board and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

With the humidity, carb icing can be a real issue. Wouldn't surprise me, but these stories are always unnerving to read. I was flying with a friend late last year and it was nerve wracking when we were having engine issues. Nothing like being instructed to "be on the lookout for clear patches of land to land on."
