Mr. Joe, if you're reading this, can you put one in East Boston? Thank you.

I have heard talk that East Boston might get a Trader Joe's in the old Rapino Funeral Home building in Maverick Square. I don't know any details though.

we need a Trader Joe's in Bristol County. Please please come down to Bristol County.

This is about a mile from the Coolidge Corner TJ's, and probably less than that far from the one on Mem Drive. Yes it's quite a ways from the other Boston location, but geographically, it makes no sense to me for them to put it here when there's not a store located anywhere south of the city, or indeed anywhere on the south shore. It makes even less sense to burn one of their three liquor licenses on this one, since the one in Brookline ALSO has liquor.

...about the liquor department comment - they don't need to lose one from another store for this, esp since Martinetti's and Blanchards are pretty close by. However, I think this store will be mobbed, as there are not a lot of affordable groceries right in Harvard Square. The Cambridge TJs is kind of a long walk. I agree I wish they had one more south of Boston. The Patriot's Place TJs is fantastic. Needham is a little cramped, and no alcohol, but the crew there are super nice.

More like two miles from Coolidge Corner and a mile and a half from Mem drive. There are Star Markets much closer to each other than that. (Including the Brighton Mills and Packards Corner stores, as a matter of fact.) Also, stores get more than three liquor licenses per chain now.

Also, Hingham isn't south shore? Because there's totally a Trader Joe's in Hingham.

I bet almost no one from that area currently travels to TJ's in Coolidge Corner, so that's not a problem. Even though Martinetti's and Blanchard's aren't TOO far from here, they require a special trip to get there. This TJ's will sell a ton of alcohol.

I bet people in Lower Allston would rather not cross the river to the one near Micro Center if they can avoid it. Just because it's physically close doesn't mean it's convenient, especially without a car.

I live in LA and I so excited about this! I don't have a car and the options in Brookline and Memorial Drive are just far enough to be annoying on foot or bus. This is exciting news...for me!

I agree, it's great for the area. The TJs in Coolidge Corner and the on in Cambridge arent that far away, but it will be nice to have a alternative to Shaw's that people can easily walk or bike to.

I live above the space so it will be super convenient for me.

This location will see a lot of foot traffic and is convenient to two bus lines. Excellent news for car-free people in that area.

There's one in Hanover, in the Hanover Mall plaza.

That's precisely where you use a liquor license.

When you look at what's happening in that immediate area: Basically, Harvard's going full blast (again) with its plans to turn that area into the next Harvard Square. Plus, you've got all the stuff at and near the New Balance project and there are various other residential projects in the work not all that far away along Soldier's Field Road. All filled with the sort of people who might want to shop at a Trader Joe's.

Awesome, I was hoping there'd be soulless place on this side of the river where I can pay my phone bill and do some banking .

So awful no one goes there anymore

In 2014, I think, the legislature voted to gradually increase that number up to 7 or 10 (yes, I should look up the number; I'm lazy).

And will be quite welcome in Allston. I lived in Lower Allston for 20 years, and for 15 of those I didn't have a car, and I used to have to schlep shopping bags on the 66 bus when I'd go to the one in Brookline, which takes ages on that bus anyway....the Harvest Cooperative used to be on Cambridge street and when that went away, one had to schlep over to Star or TJ's in Brookline...

The city and the BRA keep approving new businesses and condo developments in every part of the city. Depending on who you are, you might think this is a good thing or a bad thing. One thing that needs to be addressed is the fact that many new people are coming to our city to work, live, and do business, yet no increase has been made to public safety resources. I just read that a new, big office building has been approved for the South End, right near the new, large, Ink Block residences. The waterfront is growing by leaps and bounds, Rozzie just approved a rather large residential structure, along with many other new developments gaining approval. The problem I see is that we haven't added to the number of police, fire, and EMS resources to keep up with this growing number of people. When is this going to be addressed?

Have you noticed in terms of city life that Boston is an incredibly safe city?

1. Fire Safety - All these new buildings have sprinklers, alarms, pull stations, etc. They aren't a 1920 built two family that has been divvied up into an illegal 14 room boarding house by some scumbag landlord so some kid trying to save a few bucks while at BU doesn't get roasted to death. .

2. EMS - Perhaps you have a point there, but if you notice, one of the reasons that Boston has a fairly low death rate from shootings is that we have a really good EMS system, a national model. and I think we have a few good hospitals.

3. Police - Last time I checked, the BPD is the biggest gang in town. Not to many are able to challenge their authority. Unless you are dealing on someone else's turf at around 10:30 PM up on Humboldt, I wouldn't be overly concerned about your general safety.

Overall, we should be ok, except of course when you die on the T from heat stroke or a 1977 Boeing LRV slams into you at Arlington because its brakes went because along with all this new tax revenue it doesn't seem to be filtering down to the thing that moves people around to all these new jobs.

Nope, those don't run any more. And the Bredas no longer fall off the tracks as they try to climb Comm. Ave.

I was a little confused about the T from driving past the Seashore Trolley Museum yesterday and then my trip from Park to Kenmore only took 10 minutes at rush hour. It was weird that things went so smoothly.

Please put one near West Roxbury! Tired of driving to Needham for TJs or Westwood for Wegmans for quality and lower prices. For example could we put one on Providence Highway across the street from the car wash place? there still seems to be space there.

Adam, why do my comments rarely get printed? Is it that you don't want to print them or ami doing something wrong on my end where they're not going through? I'd like to think I'm not being censored as I'm not printing anything racist, homophobic, or otherwise offensive.

If that was the barrier to getting comments posted around here, I would be a mere gleam in your eye.

Simple enough.

Adam approves non-logged in comments which is exactly why these are a comment section worth participating in IMO. So if he's busy, your comment sits in limbo.

Just looking for clarification. I see several "anon" messages being posted. I wanted to know if there was something on my end not being done to get my comments in the game. Even though I wasn't asking for your commentary, thanks just the same for being a busybody.

Two issues. One is time: I don't always approve all anon messages at once. Then news breaks or I need some chocolate-chip cookies or something and they sit for a while. The other is, yes, content. For better or worse, I do look at all "anonymous" comments for content and, yes, I hit that Delete checkbox fairly liberally (yeah, I'm so clever) these days. As I mentioned to Arthur a few days ago, I probably have deleted some of his comments but I don't remember why - so, so, so many anon comments come in these days that I tend to forget the contents pretty quickly after I delete them - only so much room left in what's left of my brain, after all.

I got your message this time. I thought I made a pretty good point, worthy of discussion, just saying that city is regularly approving increases to the population of the city without increasing the level of public safety. Maybe it isn't such a good point for some to discuss. Enjoy your night.

Yes please, how about one in Dorchester? I end up going to one of the Cambridge stores, where at least parking is somewhat possible, although difficult on weekends. I like being able to buy healthy products (e.g. bread or peanut butter without sodium, organic dairy products and produce) without paying Whole Foods prices. And the staff are friendly and helpful.

Have you checked out Teddie All Natural Peanut Butter (unsalted)?

http://teddie.com/products/peanut-butter/

And it's made right here in Everett! (and can be purchased at most supermarkets!)

Plenty of us in Dorchester have tried to get Trader Joe's to come here. They won't. Apparently we are not the right customer base for them (they are sooooo wrong about that!). The space on Morrissey where the Burger King used to be (ages ago) would have been a perfect spot. Plenty of parking, great visibility, etc but they weren't interested.

As for anything near a Stop & Shop or Shaw's there are clauses written into leasing agreements barring those landlords from renting to competitors within a certain range. Don't know the details but this was an issue when we were lobbying for a TJs at the Carruth Building at Ashmont Station, because the developer had some deal with one of the local supermarkets. This is also why there is no supermarket at Puritan Plaza as it is too close to the Stop & Shop on Freeport street. So instead of a Trader Joes or (gasp!) a Whole Foods, we got National Wholesale Liquidators.

What Stop & Shop does is sign long term leases on places and never bother opening a store there or move an existing store to a new location and never re-rent out the old space (or rent it to a non grocery retailer like Big Lots or NWL). (which is what happens to many older plazas that S&S owns where S&S was an anchor)

For example, on US 6 on Cape Cod in Eastham there's a huge empty lot that would be perfect for a supermarket. Guess who owns it? Stop & Shop. S&S has no intention of building a store there since they have stores in Orleans and Provincetown. And why did they buy the land? Because Market Basket was interested in it, but S&S came in and paid more than the land is worth in order to prevent Market Basket from coming. So the lot sits there empty now.

Closer to Boston, in Revere. Stop & Shop had a store at Northgate Plaza (which was an old First National). In 2000, S&S opened a store on the other side of US1 and closed the Northgate location. Since S&S has a long term lease on the building, it sat empty. Once again Market Basket was interested in the space, but no dice. The city of Revere ended up passing a 'empty store front' law and heavily fined S&S for having an empty store. S&S then ended up renting to Price Rite (which S&S says is not a competior).

Market Basket got the last laugh in Revere anyways.. they rented out the old Toys R Us Location (later a NWL location) and built a brand new store RIGHT NEXT TO the Price Rite (and the old S&S location). Demoulas just gave S&S an big FU.

Its very typical of S&S to do this.. shaw's does something similar to shuttered locations.

for this information. I did not know about this jockeying for positions. Where is the lot on Rt. 6 in Eastham? Is it where the golf driving range was? A good market would do very well there, so everyone didn't have to go to Provincetown or Orleans to stock up on basics.

I'm not sure what was there before but reminded me of an empty lot for a drive in movie theater.

But here's where it is: Click Here

And here's street view: Click Here

I agree. Anything is better than the Provincetown Stop & Shop between it being mobbed on weekends and it being over priced.I guess I'm spoiled being walking distance to a Market Basket (when I'm at home in Chelsea). I forget how bad S&S really is (and they jack up the prices at the one in Provincetown.)

I've wondered why that huge lot has been empty for so long. And I think that was driving range ages ago.

A market there would be great for visitors, but also for year-round residents who wouldn't have to go so far for basics. At least for weekly visits in the Summer, it's easy to buy fresh fish and sides at the small markets and farmer's markets for the occasional night in, but when you need/want other things, it's a problem.

Yeah and the produce at the Provincetown Stop & Shop isn't always the freshest.

And don't forget, that if you're coming TO the cape on Route 3 or US 6, you can always stop at the Sagamore Market Basket just after going over the bridge for all your low price grocery needs.

The shopping plaza at Somerville Avenue and Medford St. in Somerville used to be 100% Stop & Shop: a supermarket, a Bradlees, and a MediMart. The Stop & Shop supermarket closed, and has had a variety of tenants since then, now Fallas discount store. The Bradlees is now a Target. Supposedly that Target cannot add a full grocery section because Stop & Shop still owns the property.

Well, that's sad news. Maybe at some point their marketing people will realize that there IS a strong customer base in Dorchester, and one that's becoming stronger all the time. There must be people from Quincy/Braintree/Milton who would also use the store. I have to hope that their marketing people update their demographic data regularly and can then bring about a change in policy. It sounds like you've been pretty involved in local issues like these. Is there a way we as consumers can try to persuade them?

I would really love for Trader Joe's to come to Roslindale. I'm not a car owner, so my current options are pretty limited. I fantasize about a TJs replacing Staples (where I rarely see anyone shopping), or if the Village Market could step up its game just a little?
