It wouldn't be much of an Arborway without trees

New trees along the Arborway in Jamaica Plain

Arborway project chronicler Clay Harper shows us the first new trees to be planted along the roadway - 16-to-18 foot elms. MassDOT plans call for 560 trees to be planted along the new surface roads - or about 400 more than were there when the Casey Overpass still hulked along.

They won't be cared for, and will wither and die.

BTW:
no
Surface traffic around FH is worse than ever, and will stay that way. But at least the overpass won't be casting shadows.

water them!

Presumably they will water them. By contract, landscaper vouches a two year warranty. If they don't keep them alive they'll be replacing them.

Did anybody attend the presentation for the 30% design on the busway? I was hoping to see it here, but know adam is a busy guy. I wish they would upload these docs online. :(

Wish I could remember where (thought it was Jamaica Plain News, but no). Looked like a big swoopy glass-ish thing, a bit like the Kenmore Square bus stop.

And, yes, alas, I missed the meeting. I went to a meeting about the proposed 14-unit apartment building on Cummins Highway in Roslindale, which I then didn't write about because it was your basic meeting: Residents said they didn't oppose the idea necessarily, but 14 units is too much and the traffic and parking and stuff, etc. But I probably should have at least written about how residents are really annoyed that Parkside on Adams, the new building around the substation, is charging $125 a month for parking, which few tenants want to pay, so they're parking on nearby streets, and how the Cummins Highway guy said he'd look at not charging separately for parking for that reason (well, guess I just did write about that).

I hope it's more weathertight than the Kenmore canopy. that thing is garbage.

I put up a few hasty photos of the busway design on twitter @ArborwayMatters if that helps

You know, if we'd painted trees on to it.

I hate to be hat guy, but you'll like this comment more than most I post.

Where is this? My assumption is looking from Washington Street to Shea Circle, but I want to be sure.

The first 15 trees went into the permanent mainline median between Shea and Courthouse. Shot from 500 Arborway side looking ESE.

I'll be looking for them the next time I'm on that stretch.
