Arlington Police report a woman backing into a parking spot on Linwood Circle drove over a curb and right into Spy Pond around 1 p.m. today.
Three bystanders jumped into the water and were able to rescue the operator of the vehicle. The victim was conscious and alert when she was pulled from the water. She was cold, but otherwise unhurt.

Wow! Those people are heros!
Once that door was opened, that thing sank in a SECOND! Amazing.
So glad the driver was OK.

Pardon my crankiness
But how do you drive in to the lake from a circle that is 35 feet from the lake?
And
End up that far from shore? Must have really stomped the gas pedal.
Glad she survived to learn her lesson.

That's what I'm thinking, a case of gas/brake pedal confusion. I rode past the scene yesterday and they had the tow truck positioned exactly where you would expect it, at the end of the circle right where those giant boulders are. The lady must have gunned it hard, to fly over the rocks with enough momentum so that the car floated away from shore. Unlucky, actually, since the car is probably FWD and kept propelling itself with the back already over the water. Had she gone in forward, the much heavier front (unlike what Hollywood wants you to believe) would've dipped straight down and she would've just ended up stranded nose down by the boulders.
Hope the bench survived :/
The car was just pulled out.
The car was just pulled out. It's supposed to have been in 40 feet of water.
World Class
This video made the BBC News site. But glad it was for the acts of heroism and not for a tragedy.
