Resident drops a dime: 16 arrested for alleged brothel at Brighton house

Back in March, Kenneth Cutler thought something odd was going on at 108 Brooks St. in Brighton, across the street from his home: Uber and Lyft cars were dropping off a steady stream of young men. Other men pulled up in cars nicer than the sort you'd usually see on the Brooks. Stlll other guys slowly made their way on foot down the street to the house, looking a bit lost. One asked him if he knew where the house was - and added he was looking for it because he'd scheduled "a massage."
Cutler called City Councilor Mark Ciommo - a call that sparked a police investigation that resulted in arrests of 16 people on prostitution charges in late July and the removal of 15 young women who police said had been forced into prostitution, in a house owned by a woman twice convicted of mob-related activities.
The city council and Boston Police yesterday honored Cutler with a plaque for his role in the arrests at the house, which is owned by an LLC that in turn is owned by Joseph K. Yerardi.
Ciommo and D-14 Sgt. Shawn Burns both praised Cutler for his call. When police raided the house, "several young women, who were basically sex slaves, were removed from the dwelling and sent to a safe location," Burns said, adding Cutler may well have saved the women's lives.

Like I know this kind of stuff happens in a big city, but that's right on a residential street. I assumed this kind of stuff was more of a hotel/massage parlor kind of thing.

could be worse, a few years back a girl in brookline was arrested for doing this out of her house, which also doubled as day care run by her mother.

The oldest profession still has quite the supply and demand. Sadly.

Why "sadly"? As you already pointed out, its a profession that has been here for a long time, and I would wager it will still be here a long time after any of us are still around.

when the "profession" is staffed by girls who have been basically enslaved, it is not a victimless crime. No one should be forced into sex slavery (or any other kind of slavery).

The girls were rescued, the guy got a plaque, and the neighborhood doesn't have johns flooding in for "massages". Unless you are feeling sorry for the bad guys who got arrested, I fail to see how this is NOT a happy ending.
But those girls
Were performing sexual acts against their will. That level of trauma is going to have lifetime consequences for them.
So yeah, happy ending for the neighborhood. And an ending for the women involved.

Release the names of the Johns
Otherwise they will move the operation to another neighborhood. Plus we could get a chuckle out of exposing the names of public servants who took advantage of these sex slaves. You know the police have a list of the clients.

Maybe they've got a partial list of phone numbers, but why would there be a list of clients? The john calls, sets up an appointment, brings cash, leaves. Why would the pimp or prostitutes know much of anything about the johns?
What happens to the house?
I wonder if the feds will try to take it for penalties. It last sold for $505,000 in September 2014.
Kudos to Ciommo and the police for following up on the complaint.
When this country is racked
When this country is racked by racial discord and violent gang and drug activities, do you really think chasing and wasting all these resources in grabbing couple of pimps and grown women engaged in prostitution is the most intelligent use of scarce police and tax resources??
