Old floor plans for Boston building

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can figure out what building these plans are for.

We used to provide young city residents. I think it was called a quality public education.

Girls Latin?

If you weren't stealthy, every kobold and orc on the floor heard and rushed you at once. The toilets have a sword +3 vs green dragons, which you'll want for the study hall.

It has rooms for both Kindergarten and Physics.

Also, is there a First Floor Plan?

There is - but it has the name of the building emblazoned on it!

What's the 1st floor look like?

No, and there are no rooms for Latin, which would make me suspect (although I suppose that could be on the missing first floor).

If it's a public school, had to be before the MCAS. NO Boston public school teaches physiology or Geography or Zoology anymore. Curriculum is narrowed essentially to Reading and Math and test prep, or nearly so.

Old Boston English on Avenue Louis Pasteur across the street from Latin before it was knocked down in the 80s?

I don't think so.

Why would Harvard Medical School have a kindergarten?

Thanks for playing, folks! This is the floor plan of the Boston Normal School, which is now part of the Mass Art campus. The floor plan was included in the 1905 Schoolhouse Department report, and was probably drawn in that year.

Nice digs. Here's the Google Street View of the back.

That means "teacher's college", which means these are not rooms for students of these subjects, but rather rooms for students who are studying to be teachers of these subjects. In the 1970s this was the campus of Boston State College, which was later abolished in a merger with UMass-Boston.

Can you show us the first-floor plans now?

Taking a class in how to teach Study Hall must have been quite an experience. Those units on snapping at whisperers and spotting comic books hidden inside textbooks are tough.

Just go for the Alan Rickman master class.

Sadly, your friendly neighborhood archivist is out of the office and away from her scanner for the rest of the week. I can tweet it out Monday or you can email archives (at) Boston.gov and another staff member can scan it for you .
