How to tell you're in a gift shop in Brattleboro, VT

Patriots-loving stuffed moose

Besides all the Subarus parked outside, that is (good Lord, there are a lot of Subarus in Brattleboro): The Patriots gear is just a bit different.

Yeah, the whole state is like that. It's cool.

I guess I just never noticed before. It was pretty funny, though - kidlet and I walked around and after awhile we realized that like every third car with a VT plate was a Subaru. Sure were a lot of Priuses, too.

MA is lousy with them, too.

15% market share.

My understanding is that when Subaru first started importing to the US, Boch 1.0 got a cut of all sales as the lead distributor or something which is why Boch Jr. is so rich (like beyond normal car dealer rich).

Could be urban legend.

that EB Jr gets something like one grand every time a Subie is sold in New England.

In the 70's, Boch took a chance on importing this goofy 4WD car with the quadrozontal engine, and it worked out well for him. Yes, as the New England importer, he got a piece on every one sold.

That was somewhat unusual at the time, but not unique. It wasn't till 1972 that AWD was offered as an option.

Subie's are the official state car for VT - and NH, and ME......

I have a winter knit cap with that same Flying Melvis logo as a patch on it. I bought it in a small town in Maine. It gets a lot of comments walking around the city. It made me aware that there would probably be a good market for it around Quincy/Faneuil.

Cute items but are these "officially licensed by the Patriots and NFL" or just close facsimiles? Every few years we hear of a crackdown on people using sports logos without benefit of license. I wouldn't be surprised if Kraft or the NFL went after whoever makes these if they haven't been given a cut. Coors, Miller and other beer companies can't even put Patriots or Super Bowl on a sign if the NFL has given Budweiser the rights. Instead they call them "Our Hometown Team" and "The Big Game."

Look closer.

I realize it's not a Patriots logo but I think the courts have ruled if something is "close enough" to a registered logo or trademark that the registrant can sue and the NFL, MLB, NHL, NBA have been aggressive on that. I recall the feds have raided discount stores and even vendor carts outside the games. I hope the Patriots and NFL leave well enough alone but nothing would surprise me.

My first thought was the NFL will see this and send a cease and desist letter . Logo is so cute!

...to find the fly in the ointment. And if there isn't one there already, by God he'll make one.

The Patriots logo sucks. So does the Revolution logo, for that matter.

Watch me pull an under inflated football out of my hat.

The temperature drop from the locker room was the issue.

PV=nRT dude.

An under inflated football favorably affecting the outcome of a game is about as probable as a rabbit actually emerging from Bullwinkle's hat.

And yes, the Deflategate "scandal" was one of the most idiotic spectacles the NFL has given us in a long time.

well it does at first. Until cooler minds and courts prevail.

Also there was the phone drop. You know, Brady dropping the phone and smashing it into a million pieces to destroy evidence.

and the dime drop. The text messages by the urchins who did Brady's bidding and failed to destroy their own phones.

And the collective bargaining drop. When the union dropped their rights to recourse by signing a contract giving full authority to Goodell to resolve such matters.

the outcome of the game, as the "Pats must have cheated" contingent claim, then shouldn't the game have been replayed?

Oh no, much easier to manufacture a fake scandal and set up a kangaroo court.

Again?

Nothin' up my sleeve...

And now for something you'll really enjoy.

"And now here's something we hope you'll really like!^^". Except when, on occasion, he'd say "And now it's time for another special feature ."

Lifelong fan of all things Jay Ward and not ashamed to admit it

^^h/t to Irma la Douce for correcting my correction - How did I get THAT wrong?

It was "Now here's something WE HOPE you'll really like".

Have corrected my post.

Fare is Fair must really have me worked up if I can't even properly quote a simple Rocky and Bullwinkle line.

Moose and Squirrel forever!

You have ten thousand thumbs up from me on this one.

She voiced Russian spy Natasha as well as Rocky, and many other well-known animated roles.

Nell Fenwick, who was in love with Dudley Do Right's horse.

When I heard the news report about June Foray's passing, I summoned up my best Bullwinkle voice and called out "Oh no. Rocky!!!!"
