WCVB learns that Danny Amendola wears 80, not 81

WCVB tweeted out news of the Patriots' win tonight with a photo of a Patriots player wearing an 81 jersey diving for a ball.
Oops, the station realized pretty quickly - in part because people started wondering why they'd used a photo of Aaron Hernandez:
A news service that provides WCVB some digital content accidentally posted a pic of Aaron Hernandez in connection w/Pats AFC champ win on our social media. It's embarrassing & unacceptable. We apologize & are working w/team to correct so something like this never happens again.

Hearst is by far the
Hearst is by far the stingiest of any of the media conglomerates-if they have their way the FCC requirement that stations maintain a physical presence in the market they serve, and broadcast at least 4 hours a week of content made in said premises, eliminated. This wouldn't affect a large market such as Boston but smaller markets would see their local newscast outsourced or eliminated. The fact that they do not want to pay Getty doesn't surprise me.

I don't think this was a mistake at all. Obviously someone at CVB isn't a Patriots fan. Effective passive aggressive shade throwing. If I'm wrong then it's incompetent journalism and someone should be fired but that will never happen because accountability in the media belongs to a bygone era. Most Americans get their news from Twitter and SNL these days anyway. "What Even Matters Anymore?"

They might use one of these services, many of which are overseas, where people constantly update a client's social media posts as if they were they client themselves. That's fine if you're a furniture dealer but real scummy when you're trying to present yourself as local news.
The guy doing the update might have had no idea who any of these players are. They just did a search for the two teams and grabbed the first image that appeared.

Then it's incompetence. Any legit journalist in the Boston area would know Hernandez by sight by now and realize that the image was wrong. If it wasn't deliberate then they didn't check and should be fired. This is unacceptable especially given today's climate of fake news accusations. I'm at the point where I don't believe more than half of what is reported simply because of these sort of shoddy reports getting out there daily..

The publication of James Patterson's new book about Hernandez is obviously timed to maximize piggybacking on the Pats playoff\championship publicity. There was a network special on the murder cases Sat night and a commercial for the book during Sunday's game (or possibly pregame, can't quite remember).

I believe they were also the station that showed a photo of Ricky Jean Francois consoling a Jaguars player after the game and identified him as Patriots rookie Jean Francois. He is a nine year veteran. WCVB used to be an excellent station years ago.
