That unlike somebody else you're probably thinking of, he actually did help poor people even as he got his mansion built and the like - Boston City Hospital was dramatically expanded, lots of parks were built and the like. So criticize him for his many failings (including how he financed a lot of those public improvements), but recognize that he did do some good..

If Marty Walsh attempted 1/100th the corruption that Curley caused there would be a score of US Attorneys working to take him down and he would be garroted on these boards even more than he already is now.

Say what you will, and there is much to criticize, it is a bit much to blame Curley for the large scale 20th century migration of city dwellers to the suburbs.
