Porter Square is crammed for tonight's voyages of the damned

Michael Doyle is among the scores (hundreds? thousands?) of Fitchburg Line riders forced to deboard prematurely at Porter Square this evening due to either some sort of switch problem between there and Belmont or a train that gave up the ghost, depending on which MBTA alert one chooses to read.
Regardless of the reason, "no outbound train has left Porter in 90 minutes," Saul Blumenthal reports.

Baker refuses to take the T, though he did point out that new red and orange line cars are coming (but didn't point out that was his predecessor Patrick who ordered them). His pals at the esteemed State Police chauffer him everywhere, so don't expect any real changes for all the cheating and stealing they got caught doing recently.

Despite all of the transportation disasters & backlogs this week, Pollack decides to take a 5 hour break in the middle of the day. Why? No punishment. When she spent 100K on a bathroom and was't fired, Pollack realized she could get away with anything. Just like Revenue + Staties. We are all f'ed until Baker leaves office.

You don't have to travel far to find a better system than the MBTAs. The only time there is long term investment in the subway is during a democratic governor (Dukakis, Patrick). During republican governors, its commuter rail and highways and fare increases. And since we mostly have republicans in this formerly progressive state, along with a conservative legislature, move to Delhi or drive.

Public transit is just to take some of the congestion off the roads, for those wealthy people.

Congestion Charges will soon make that even more true. Only the wealthy will be able to afford to drive. No different than the aristocracies' taxes on carriages and licensing coachmen to keep the upstart middle class from crowding the roads back in days of old.
The Fitchburg Line is not for poor people
Though perhaps the selectmen in Acton might want to pressure the T to put stops in their area in zone 1A, it ain’t cheap to ride that line.
