Police: Heroin-toting carjacker drives into car's owner downtown; is arrested in Dorchester

Boston Police report arresting a man they say carjacked a car downtown yesterday, then drove it to Savin Hill - where he was arrested with the victim's wallet and three plastic bags containing a brown substance believed to be heroin.

Police report My Tran, 35, wrested control of the car away from the owner around 11:20 a.m. on Bedford Street. The victim tried to stop the theft by standing in front of the car, but Tran drove into him, knocking him to the ground with minor injuries.

A police cadet at the District A-1 station was able to translate for the victim, who did not speak English, and a dispatcher broadcast a description of the car across all of BPD's district radio channels. Not long after, police say, officers on patrol in Dorchester spotted the car at South Sydney Street and Savin Hill Avenue - where they arrested Tran.

Tran was charged with carjacking, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon (car), leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and possession of heroin, police say. He also had three active warrants for his arrest on unrelated charges.

Innocent, etc.
