Unpaid interns will do most of the City Council's Chuck Turner work

Via Kevin McCrea, City Council President (for a few more days) Maureen Feeney wishes it known the council probably won't be spending $50,000 to decide what action to take, if any, against the Innocent until Proven Guilty Councilor. Oh, sure, McCrea relays, the council is still hoping to hire that $500-an-hour retired federal judge (no, they haven't actually hired him yet), but:

[A]pparently the bulk of the work is going to get done by unpaid interns. That's great, the City Council is going to decide whether to oust an elected official who hasn't been found guilty of any crime (yet), based upon the work of unpaid interns. That sounds like a fair and democratic process. Unpaid interns (from California?) are going to determine whether Chuck Turner is qualified or unqualified to serve. The report is due in February! No signed contract yet and the report is due in two months? ...

Boston City Hall needs a better City Council staff director and better City Clerk. Not people who enunciate the principles of open government but people who actually practice open government by welcoming even encouraging enquiries from the public.

I see references to unpaid interns, possibly from California. I can't draw any conclusions from that without additional reporting.

Perhaps unpaid interns of this (unspecified) kind are well-accepted practice for this kind of investigation.

Or perhaps this is highly irregular, and additionally, the interns are all genetically engineered clones of Turner's sworn enemy.

Where are my reporters?
