As someone who keeps kosher, it bugs me just a little when people use the term to refer to traditional Eastern European Jewish dishes.

Kashrut is independent of whether the dish is a traditional Jewish food. Matzoh ball soup can be treyf (for example, at S&S). And Chinese food (or almost any other cuisine) can be kosher.

Also, Ashkenazi is not the only Jewish heritage. I've had people tell me that I'm clearly mistaken, because matzo balls and whatever are "my" food, not falafel/hummus/tabouli.

You schnorrers who just name a place without also giving some info don't really help a whole lot.

First of all, it's essential to understand that in the matzoball world there are two competing ideologies: the Light & Fluffy School vs. the Heavy & Dense School. I'm a heavy/dense person (in most every sense), and the loveliest, light-as-air matzoball just is not my cup of Manischevitz. Though, if it's nicely flavored with just a hint of ginger, I'll manage.
