Massholes know sidewalks are really only good for one thing after a snowstorm

Steven Ayr could only marvel at what he saw on Victory Road at Houghton this morning:
24hrs after storm, someone shoveled out their car, dumped everything on the sidewalk, then put out a space saver. Either this person is a complete jerk or this is a political art installation commenting on the broken nature of Boston transit priorities.

Advice to people parking
If you're a guy, your best bet is to shovel your spot and be prepared to cuss someone out, take revenge by letting air out of tires, or maybe even chase someone with a snow shovel if someone messes with your space. The larger the vehicle (ex. Truck), the more intimidating you will be. The best space savers are old grills or old hockey goals constructed from PVC.
If you're a hot girl, you will probably be ok as long as you have a car such as a new Mazda or Honda Civic demonstrating that you are a hot girl. An old Ikea shelf or papasan chair make great space savers.
If you're an unattractive girl, maybe driving a Subaru or an old, odd color Chevy Malibu, expect somebody to take your space. You would be best advised to become an advocate against the 48 hour Space Saver Rule. Scream into the camera about it if you ever get interviewed by the local news.
If you're a weak-willed guy with low T and a maybe a Toyota Camry or RAV 4, don't fight or seek retribution for your space. You will either get your ass kicked or get arrested. Your best bet is to post on the internet about how people that use space savers have Bad Morals.
Counterpoint
If you're a real guy and care enough about having a designated parking spot, strap on a pair and buy/rent a garage spot or two (one for yourself and one for your hot girl).

Here's what really gets me
The property owner cleared the sidewalk. The A-hole driver dumped the snow on the sidewalk. Right now, the options are for "someone" to clear the sidewalk, most likely the poor slob who cleared the sidewalk yesterday, or for there to be a 311 complaint, in which case the property owner, who again I will note shoveled the sidewalk, will get ticketed for what the A-hole driver did.
Ideally that snow will end up in that space, but that's a lot of effort. At the end of the day, some people are jerks.

Based on prior experience, it's also possible whoever would be responsible for the sidewalk is also the person who cleared the parking spot. They'll be the first to defend their "right" to hold the parking space but fuck anyone who thinks they oughta clear the sidewalk. They don't need the sidewalk themselves because they have a car.

If the homeowner had that attitude, they wouldn't have shoveled the sidewalk in the first place. The asshole driver puled a dick move.

Looks like no attempt was made, irrespective of the parking spot.
Take another look at the photo
As frobot notes, there's a shovel width of a walk on the sidewalk in the foreground and the background. Not what one is supposed to do, but yes, there was an attempt to clear the sidewalk.
The sidewalk was not cleared
Let's not pretend that one shovel-width worth of clear sidewalk is good enough. The official city policy is to clear a 42" wide path. This looks to be about half that, so IMO they still deserve to get a 311 complaint and ticket. Most strollers wouldn't be able to get through that, never mind a wheelchair.
The car owner is still a terrible person for filling it back in, and I don't mean to minimize that. But that property owner could have and should have done a better job in the first place.
42 inches?
It doesn't look like the sidewalk is 42" wide there (not an uncommon problem in older neighborhoods), so it doesn't make much sense to ask someone to shovel a path 42" wide.
Perhaps if the city decided to narrow the street -- probably by taking one side's parking spaces -- and created 42" sidewalks, I think we can agree the problem would be solved.

That's what the city's snow removal page says. If your sidewalk isn't that wide, then you lucked out and only have to clear the width of the walk itself I guess? Also on the city website:
Seems to be somewhat up to interpretation. But I don't think anyone would call one shovel-width an accessible path of travel, especially when that path turns to ice after the remaining snow melts in the daytime and refreezes overnight.

There is no way you can accurately measure the width of sidewalk previously shoveled. This is what I mean by the internet makes it worse. This is very common in this neighborhood. This is worse because it is usually people clearing the driveway by pushing snow on the sidewalk. I always assumed that was renters pissed at the owner for only clearing the sidewalk.

Stop making excuses for lazy people. There is obviously only one shovel-width cleared before and after the re-filled area. The cars in the background aren't even cleared off yet. If it's very common in the neighborhood, then it's a widespread problem. That doesn't make it OK.

East of the light pole belongs to the condo complex. The visible buildings small portion of the side walk is completely covered.

Where is the yard? I see a building with a pile of snow against it--if there's a strip of grass under there, it is pretty narrow and the snow is piled up on it already. The problem is, there isn't much place to put the snow--the sidewalk is supposed to be cleared, the snow shouldn't be put in the street, but the street isn't cleared either--because there are parked cars, the plows can't do anything about snow near the curbs--and anyway the plows don't actually remove the snow and half the time they put snow from the street back on the sidewalk!
