A Boston impeachment sign

Phil R. attended the March for Truth at the State House yesterday.
Andrea Doremus Cuetara shows us there was also a vigil for children who have died in border concentration camps:

Couldn't they come up with something better for the signs?
I am no prude or shrinking violet by a longshot, but the message of the people in the first photo (which I don't necessarily disagree with) might be more persuasive if they used language that was less crude. It indicates a lack of thought and makes me less inclined to take them seriously.
They're paraphrasing Ortiz.
Blame him :-)
As I recall, Ortiz's words
As I recall, Ortiz's words weren't spoken to take a side of a controversial issue on which reasonable people disagree.
And yet ...
People complained to the FCC (leading to the FCC chairman publicly posting that he agreed with Ortiz).
This site was better
When you infused your biases a lot LESS then you do now.
The impulse to “extol” must be hard to choke back.
Why do you put the word "extol" in quotation marks?
Are you unsure of its meaning? Maybe you shouldn't try to use big words.
I am no prude or shrinking
You sure about that?
Ironic
"This is our fucking country" is something you'd write on an anti-immigration sign.
People missing the reference?
David Ortiz in response to the marathon bombings
Sure
Protesting marathon bombers does offer one explanation for waving mylar blankets.
So what?
Paraphrasing a baseball player somehow makes it a more intelligent, well-put seeming comment?
No, but it makes the sign ...
Uniquely Boston.
Im a leftwing Democratic liberal
Ya know, the kind that FOX News says eats babies in pizza parlor basements.
I openly hate the GOP and Trump with every fiber of my being and think this sign is super dumb.
No, it's a more subtle defect of the mind
On a surface reading, as you say "it's our fucking country" implies that everyone else can stay the fuck out.
But it goes deeper. "It's our fucking country" means "it's ours, *and ours alone* to do with as we please." So if "we" want to open the door to everyone and anyone, no questions asked, it's "our" right to do that. Just like it's my right to open the front door of my house and welcome in anyone who wants to come in.
The problem, of course, is that a country is not a private house. A better analogy is that it's an apartment or condo building. And when you live in one of those, you only get to prop open the front door if *everyone* agrees to it. Because when you open the door, you're giving away access. When it's your house, it's yours to give away. When you're one person out of many who share that front door, it's *not* yours to give away.
And that's the problem. The people screaming for open borders under the banner of "it's our fucking country" think that entry into the United States is theirs and theirs alone to give away. And the rub, of course, is that it's not. Just like my taxes are not theirs alone to spend. Just like my consumption habits are not theirs to dictate. And on it goes.
Some people just can't get a handle on the fact that they cannot command their fellow citizens how to live. It's a defect of morality is what it is.
Here, Roman.
A drunk comedian probably can communicate this to you on a level you'll understand.

Not even wrong. Again.
No, you shouldn't take credit for the great deeds of your ancestors and your countrymen, but you are allowed to be proud of those great deeds in the same way you're allowed to be proud of your friends and loved ones for their accomplishments.
But let's say you're not allowed to be proud of being an American because you didn't build this country with your own two hands like the impossible Randian hero that you like to compare us righties against. By the same token, you're not allowed to be ashamed of being an American, since you didn't keep slaves or distribute smallpox blankets or go to war to sell newspapers and bananas. You're not allowed to knock people down with cries of 'white privilege' or denigrate actual people's accomplishments with a dismissive 'pale male and stale.' Again: it's not yours to give away.
Nationalism as identical to hate is a leftist meme. Nationalism can be about hate. Or it can be about love. Your choice.
Youre confusing Patriotism with Nationalism
And maybe some brevity in your next response, Roman.
Much sound and fury signifying nothing.
Patriotism as just as dirty a word as nationalism
out of the wrong mouth.
Etymologically, they mean the exact same thing. Land of birth, or the land that fathered you. Potato potahto.
"blah"
tl;dr
Open borders
FWIW, nobody of note is asking for open borders.
No? Ayanna Presley's a nobody?
What else do you get when you disband the agency charged with enforcing the borders by tracking down, apprehending, and deporting people who cross them illegally?
Not open borders
You're devoted to lies and half-truths, so for the benefit of the audience, those calling to abolish ICE recognize that 1)it's a relatively new agency and 2)it's fraught with corruption and abuse of power. They are calling for a responsible, accountable, professional organization, not the gang of thugs they have now.
Thuggery as a synonym for law enforcement. Figures.
1) Newness. Irrelevant.
2) Corruption and abuse of of power. Evidence?
That's not open borders
That's not open borders.
We have quotas.
We don't just allow anybody in.
We have procedures for asylum and citizenship.
And you will enforce these quotas how?
What will you do with the 100k+ people crossing the border each month?
That's a million and change a year. Our "quota" for legal immigration, not including the illegal border crossers, is one million per year.
Blah
tl;dr
Border Concentration Camps?
Give me a break comparing the border patrol to the Nazis is an insult to the hard working border patrol agents and the families of Jewish, Catholic ,Gypsies, GBLT and million of others who were murdered in the camps.
They were used to "concentrate" people first
Then they became slaughterhouses.
If you prefer, I could call them internment camps. That might be appropriate given how a Japanese-American internment camp might be turned into a place to warehouse these kids.
I'd prefer you call them what they are. Detention camps.
Used to detain people who of their own free will traveled hundreds or thousands of miles and decided that our immigration laws did not apply to them.
In history class, I don't ever recall learning about how Japanese Americans on the West Coast voluntarily put themselves into a position to be rounded up. Nor did I ever recall learning about how European Jews voluntarily put themselves in a position to be murdered.
You flunked
You flunked history then, I guess. All of the above were required to register with authorities who subsequently deported or incarcerated them, and worse.
You also flunked history WRT the debacle that is US foreign policy in Central America. I'm sure you were taking an important nap.
Who flunked? Was it voluntary
Who flunked? Was it voluntary or required?
The usual nit-pickery
This is the same old argument that because a situation isn't exactly the same in every detail as one it's being compared to, it can't be compared to that. A useless argument attempting to obscure a real abuse.
Fortunately, you aren't serious
And I say this out of charity.
There is just no way you're crazy, stupid, or evil enough to seriously say that willfully violating a law that's been on the books since before you were born is morally equivalent to having the law changed on you by at-best questionable means to steal your stuff, your freedom, and your live from you.
More word-in-mouth disease
Now with even more mind-reading! I have no idea what you think you're talking about,* but you likewise have no idea what's in my head, so how about you stop telling me what I am and am not saying?
* And please, please don't attempt to explain it. I won't bother to read it. I don't have enough time on Earth left to waste it on your juvenile sophistry.
Guess who?!
A quick online search for a recent president who separated illegal alien children from their parents reveals an NYT article: "Mr. Obama’s Dubious Detention Centers". But the Liberals are only upset now.
Nah
"The Liberals", as you refer to them, gave Obama the nickname "Deporter in Chief". You just weren't paying any attention, were you?
C'mon, do better Adam
Really? You fell for the "former japanese internment camp" bullshit?
A) It's an active military base, and a nice one at that.
B) IT WAS USED FOR THE SAME PURPOSE IN 2014!
They aren't dusting off a former internment camp, Jesus, do 2 seconds of research.
Nah
Were already there, pal.

World to end tomorrow. Women and minorities hardest hit.
.
Such an odd person you are.
Miserable to the core and screaming into the void, powerless as your demographic fades from relevance.
I've been hearing how my demographic is fading from relevance
since I was old enough to start reading the news. I didn't care much, since I figured E Pluribus Unum, and all that. Although I did note that the thinly-veiled anticipatory glee that accompanied many of these predictions, and still does today to an even greater extent, was and remains less than appropriate.
We'll all be happy...
...when the tail that is your demographic stops wagging the dog. Got a problem with it?
"Concentration camp"
was in use long before the Nazis.
If memory serves, it was a euphemism for 'military prison'
that the Brits came up with during the Boer War to put a positive spin on rounding up the Dutch Afrikaners in South Africa.
It immediately got a bad name because although they were doing a pretty good job at rounding up the white South African farmers, they didn't do that good of a job at feeding them once rounded up. On account of...you know...there not being anyone left to work the fields and harvest the crops.
Not quite
Close, though. It has its origins in Cuba.
Children always separated from adults under arrest
An adult's cell block or holding facility is no place for a child. Of course the adults and children are separated, for the child's safety. Whether it's Border Patrol or Boston Police, the legal standard of in loco parentis (in lieu of parents) applies when the police become temporary child caretakers. It's also good to see the Border Patrol using the same child care facilities they used under President Obama. From some of the reporting and protests, you'd almost think that President Trump started the program. He didn't.
As for child deaths at the youth centers, I'm surprised there haven't been more given the primitive health and sanitary situations they're coming from, many without benefit of vaccinations or pediatrics.
It's always our fault
Not the parents. If an American citizen treated their kids like some crossing the border do they would lose custody and charged with neglect.
ask yourself
why are they crossing the border? do you think anyone really wants to make an extraordinarily dangerous, long, exhausting journey filled with danger just because it's a fucking fun thing to do??
if you knew what it was like in honduras or el salvador, you wouldn't be so flip about blaming the parents. they're doing what they can to save their children's lives, quite literally.
Deliberate abuses
People who have just crossed a river, soaking wet, are placed in cages, outside, with no shelter from the elements. They are then placed in cells that are deliberately kept at 55 degrees, with no beds and floors that are dirt or rough concrete. 55 degrees. In the Southwest. That takes some real work. They are kept there for weeks, for no reason except cruelty -- there are residential facilities available that ICE is shutting down, and choosing to keep people in cages instead.
When they are moved out of the Freezer, they're sent to...well, looks like it's going to be Fort Sill. Why use a military facility when there are other perfectly good facilities? Gosh, I can't imagine, but it might have something to do with the fact that inspections aren't allowed.
Is this really something that you want done in your name?
History in the making
All those years of wondering how so many Germans could either stand by, or participate with glee, as the 1930s rolled around, and only because we don't have any 1930s Internet message boards to go back and read. Good work, everyone; future generations won't wonder at all how America got like this.
Prediction
When they wake up, some apologist like lmo will weigh in with a comment saying that because it's not Jews being rounded up and put in camps, this can't be compared to Nazi Germany. Or some other specific condition they want to use to make this So Very Different from what the Nazis did.
Maybe I'll be wrong, but I doubt they can help themselves. Good Germans, all.
An apologist?!? GTFOH.
