Police: Medford woman drives into teen in Central Square crosswalk, keeps driving, crashes into two cars

Cambridge Police report arresting a 20-year-old Medford woman after she ran into a 15-year-old in a crosswalk at Massachusetts Avenue and Pearl Street tonight.
The driver left the scene and subsequently crashed into 2 parked cars on Mass Ave and Prospect St. She was then apprehended by CPD.
Police add:
The victim was transported to a local hospital for what appears to be a non-life-threatening head injuries.
The driver is expected to be charged with leaving the scene of an crash after knowingly causing personal injury.

I blame toxic car culture
This is what happens when parents won't let their kids walk or bike to friend's houses, forbid them from using the MBTA buses or trains because they are classist phobics, yet look the other way when they go out with friends to drink in the woods "to give them a little freedom".
You get young adults who think "good time" means "alcohol" and "transportation" automatically means "car". What could possibly go wrong?
My guys are her same age and live in the same area. One of them has a car. They went into Cambridge to hang with friends and go to bars on Friday night.
The car stayed at home. Mostly because of the hassle of parking and driving, but also because of the drinking. They were headed in for fun and just didn't want to deal with a car in the city on a busy night.
Medford has substantial transit resources that make it easy to get to young adult attractions, but there are far too many people who don't know how to use those resources or teach their kids to use them. But they had DARE in school - that's good enough, right?

Central Square has been notorious for Jaywalking for decades.
Frankly, it doesn't matter much.

It's a hit and run. Totally reasonable to assume the worst about the driver.

This should result in a lifetime ban from driving, but will not. A high school classmate of mine was paralyzed from the waist down in a crash on the Arborway at age 15. Another man was left with injuries even more life altering than that. That was six years ago. The guy who caused the crash is now only four years away from being able to hold a Massachusetts drivers license once again. The only coverage of the sentencing was right here on UniversalHub. That crash was not an accident by any definition of the word. An honest question to the judges of the Commonwealth: What does one actually have to do to have the privilege of operating a motor vehicle revoked?

You do realize that other countries do this differently - drinking age of 16 or 18, driving age of 18 to 21 or so.
Oh, but 18 year olds are sooooooooooooooooooooooo different in Canada.
The drinking age in the US isn't the issue - our drinking age is on a par with those countries where Islamic law is interpreted to allow outsiders to drink. The problem in the US is the driving AND the binge drinking that goes with our Sharia-level prohibitions on our young adults.

So is a minimum age to get a license. So is the law that judges, cops, and firefighters retire by a certain age.

First and foremost, I hope that all of the victims and survivors of this incident recover quickly and fully. Your physical injuries may heal, however the mental aspect of healing may take a little more time.
I am not sure of the circumstances or in the State of Mind of this particular individual who caused this Reckless Carnage in Cambridge.
However I would warn everyone who is walking driving whatever you're doing Please be aware that people are driving around under the influence of Narcotics marijuana alcohol all forms of drugs. And I believe that they are more heroin addicts driving around in our neighborhoods. Have been far too many hit-and-runs and I truly believe that most of these people are under the influence of some type of mind-altering drug. We need to stiffen the law regarding Hit and Run and driving under the influence. We are all in danger every day that we're walking around in our communities mark my word.

Let's hope that the woman from Medford who hit the teenager crossing on the crosswalk gets some jail time, plus a lifting of her driver's license for awhile. It would serve her right!
No prosecution in Suffolk County for operating after revocation
Prior to her arraignment, this woman should park her car on the Boston side (Suffolk County) of the Cambridge/Boston city line. The judge could permanently REVOKE her driver's license and she could then walk back to her car, hop behind the wheel, then drive all over Suffolk County without consequence. This is the "progressive" dictate of D.A. Rollins.
As such, why would any police officer waste the time to cite for operating after suspension or revocation which requires at minimum a citation, a court complaint, a complete inventory of the car if towed and a detailed narrative of the events supporting the complaint. Waste of time so expect more of this. We've already had one atrocity (seven motorcyclists dead) due to the failure of the bureaucrats to take these matters seriously. Expect more deaths.

I usually enthusiastically agree with the Swirl and loathe the Fish, and I'm a big fan of Rollins' push toward criminal justice, but...
I think the Fish has a good point here. What would DA Rollins do with a person who lost her license due to driving into a person and then driving away, and chose to drive again anyway? What *should* DA Rollins do in that event, Swirl?

But even if she were, she never said she wouldn't prosecute leaving the scene of an crash after knowingly causing personal injury, which is what this woman is charged with, so her attempts at social justice would have nothing to do with this.
Our pal, the alleged retired state trooper, would know both those facts, you'd think. I mean, it would be like blaming Rollins for the recent arrest of the president of the State Troopers Association of Massachusetts on charges of being a two-bit extortionist and common thief.

I don't think it's fair to dismiss the OP as a troll, even if s/he is misinformed about whether the DA is relevant in this case. I also don't think it's fair to assume they are criticizing the DA just because she's black. Granted, the first sentence is entirely accurate.
