Wait, people can now get deported for what their friends say? I am going to mess with my friends so bad. . . Until then, I hope this immigration officer gets fired on the spot.

Glad we're being protected from the scourge of [checks article] 17-year old Harvard freshmen who know people who say mean things about the USA on social media - truly the greatest threat to our way of life.

from all those angsty white kids known to roam Harvard's properties at all hours.

Tsarnaev? What was he? 19?

I don't know what happened and this sounds very suspicious. However, there also might be another side to this story. Highly doubt this was a low level decision. Somebody up the chain signed off on this.

Tsarnev was eight years old when he moved to America. Do you have a point, or do you just hate foreigners?

He was 19 when he decided to help his brother blow up the Boston Marathon finish line. I looked it up last night.

The point is the above poster says we shouldn't be afraid of a 17 year old. I have no opinion on this particular kid - but teenagers are fully capable of violence including mass violence (and not just foreigners if you pay attention to the news).

Do you have a point or do you simply not understand the current state of affairs in the world?

not just foreigners if you pay attention to the news

So in other words, this has basically zero relevance to the topic under discussion, unless your point is that "Humans can do bad things, so we shouldn't let any humans into the country."

Right.

"Be careful who you let in" = kick everyone out, including citizens

Nice troll.

I was in Canada last weekend and while they love us and all, especially in the winter, there's a thing where they're starting to look at places to vacation where there aren't any Americans. When you're getting ghosted by Canadians it's bad.

The Ontario premier, Canada's largest and most important province, is to the right of Atilla the Hun. No American governor comes close. And he's quite popular.

So many of my friends don't want to travel here. Originally, it was to keep their tourism dollars out but now the border issues are as bad as they've ever been. At some crossings, they will ask if you've ever in your entire life tried pot - essentially legal there everywhere. If you say you have (most people have tried it at least once), you will be barred from entering the States. For life. They can seize your computer and/or phone if you travel for work. Add to that the crimes against humanity that should be before the Hague, the attempts to codify racism, and the open corruption, it is not an attractive destination for the rest of the world.

Well educated and foreign. That’s a solid 1-2 punch in terms of what frightens the hell out of this administration and its enablers.

I read the Crimson article and can't help but think there's part of the story missing.

Yeah, do you have any evidence of what you are saying or are you just trumping it, wildly speculating about conspiracies to cast doubt about anything you don't like. That can go two ways.

The infiltration of american institutions by racists and white supremacist / Nazi sympathizers.

The 20 year plan from the late 90's (when those orgs almost died) is producing fruit.

1) student sanitized their Facebook history before traveling
2) immigration officer observed political posts by friends that appear intertwined with the student
3) student claims "I have no single post on my timeline discussing politics."

Not saying this is what happened, only that we've been served a single side of the issue, while the other side is an unknown. At this point, you could jump to the conclusion, "the immigration officer demonstrated racism, because Trump" or pause and wait for more information before concluding anything.

Because it makes perfect sense to deny someone entry to the country based on their Facebook posts.

Makes as much sense as denying admission to Harvard based on Facebook memes.

... and other images mocking sexual assault, the Holocaust, and the deaths of children, according to screenshots of the chat obtained by The Crimson. Some of the messages joked that abusing children was sexually arousing, while others had punchlines directed at specific ethnic or racial groups. One called the hypothetical hanging of a Mexican child “piñata time.”

So weird that you didn't highlight the content of the memes.

Can't speak to the others, but the "Hypothetical hanging of a Mexican child" was likely a tourist photo from the famed Island of the Dolls, where some dude strung up a lot of plastic dolls from trees for no apparent reason, and it's turned into an attraction.

Dankmemes are harmless, though they do hold the potential for much hysteria.

What makes you say likely?

If memes are harmless as you said, why the need to speak on this one specifically, couldn't you just continue the willfully ignorant charade and toss those under the rug too?

Interesting that you equate the Harvard Admissions Office with Dept. of Homeland Security.

“After the 5 hours ended, she called me into a room , and she started screaming at me. She said that she found people posting political points of view that oppose the US on my friend[s] list.”

Nazis: Call for Jews to be exterminated.
Right-wingers: Sorry, but free speech is sacred.

Palestinian refugee: Friend once posted something critical of the US on Facebook.
Right-wingers: GET OUT OF OUR COUNTRY TERRORIST!!!1!1

I've no doubt the kid probably purged some vile antisemitic shit off his social media postings, and his friends still had theirs. Palestinian growing up in Lebanon, so that's par for the course. Which means the best thing for American national security and Mideast progress, is to LET HIM IN SO HE CAN START CLASS.

For fuck's sake, I'm Israeli. And this is stupid.

and he won't have to pay Harvard tuition - all kinds of Middle Eastern groups will be happy to give him full support. Like Al Qaida, ISIS, and Hamas.

Win-win!

Deport the (useless) Racists

They didn't retain him because of his friends' posts, they looked at his social media in the 8 hours they held him for and then used that as an excuse to deny him entry. He had gone through the visa process already and been approved, he made financial agreements (paying college tuition) based on that approval. They didn't stop him because he didn't have legal status here (he did) - they stopped him for being brown and then kept at it til they found something to hang their hat on. This should be chilling for everybody, even the racists out there. Read the details in the articles - natural born citizens are being detained and held for days, even if they have proof of citizenship. One woman was able to finally be released because she had an image of her passport on her phone - why did she have that? Because she's brown. How many people in Boston go across town with their passport on them? We're within 100 miles of the coast so ICE thinks they have the right to stop us for our papers. Citizens are having their passport renewals held up and delayed because they have Hispanic heritage. They're boarding buses demanding papers to go to Maine. They're preventing people from deplaning off of domestic flights. These are gestapo level tactics and are unconstitutional.

If you aren't going to bring your education standards up (funding of schools better rather than the racist property taxes) or lower secondary education costs (the highest in the world), you're going to have to import doctors, engineers, and scientists. Better yet, pick both. The rest of society will only benefit - imagine.

Didn't Trump say he wanted more immigrants that were smart and educated, not poor ones that he worries will cost the US. Then this happens and its so clear what BS that is, he wants white educated immigrants, and anchor models and their families.

He had a scholarship from AMIDEAST

"AMIDEAST (America-Mideast Educational and Training Services) is a U.S. non-profit organization that works to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between Americans and the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa, and to offer opportunities for Learning and training."

The people they need to worry about are already here. I see racist/violent posts on social media all the time and nothing happens to them. If anything, the main threat to Americans is from suburban white teenagers that have access to guns they can barely handle
