Snowplow crash kills two in West Roxbury

Boston Police report that two people died in an 11:05 a.m. collision between a City of Boston snowplow and a private car at Grove and Centre streets.

The driver of the car, a 65-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene. Her passenger, a 25-year-old woman, was rushed to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where she died.

The facts and circumstances of this accident are currently under investigation by the Boston Police Accident Reconstruction Team and Boston Police detectives. Preliminary information suggests that the accident was a result of the road and weather conditions at the time. It appears that the Operator of the snow plow pulled over and stopped in an attempt to avoid the collision.

Channel 5 reports the younger woman was pregnant.

That's not the best of curves there.

How did the car find itself in the path of the snowplow?

Unless it spun, understeer is a likely candidate since the passenger side slammed into the plow. I can't see enough of the surroundings to make a better guess. Lift-off oversteer and a big spin before contact is also possible, as is bouncing off something else first.

This underscores the importance of judging conditions, having proper equipment, and the necessary training to drive in conditions like these.

In Finland, there's compulsory car vehicle handling training, complete with skidpad training, emergency lane change/avoidance exercises, etc...and in many states you can be ticketed for not having properly rated tires on your car if the conditions warrant it.

I've never had an at-fault collision in my life, and I've been to several driver training events; some for winter driving, others for highway-speed car control and vehicle handling/dynamics.

What's your beef, chief?

I'm not so sure that Adam is the one you're really mad at. I'm gonna guess that this was meant for Brett above. In that case, you should really figure out how to reply to the right message before you go telling others what to do.
