Some people hoping we don't get a thaw anytime soon

Seems that the cancellation of today's Boston trash pickup doesn't mean a one-day delay, as with holidays, but as much as a week's delay for Bostonians not fortunate enough to live in areas with two or three pickups a week. Such as Ed Coppinger of West Roxbury, who wonders how he's going to get his snow-laden barrels back in the yard and whether he'll need to buy a new one. Also, when he called the Mayor's Hotline, the man who answered agreed he has every right to be annoyed.

Use the trash as a parking space-saver. If the snow thaws before trash day, the city will remove it!

But parts of JP and Roxbury have at least twice weekly trash pickup.

I always assumed it had something to do with keeping the rat population down. They do it in the more populated sections - downtown, Charlestown, North End, South End, etc. too.

Charlestown trash pick-up is only once a week (Wed).

That doesnt seem all that sanitary. Im glad my city didnt cancel garbage pickup, they postponed it like any sane person would do.

I do not remember trash pick up ever being canceled. There is no reason it can't be done the next day, like on holidays.

Andy yes, some neighborhoods their trash removed as often as three times per week, such as Back Bay and Beacon Hill, I believe. It is not just based on population, since the whole Comm. Ave. area of Allston and Brighton only gets hit once a week. The population density there is quite high.
