WFNX peers into the cold abyss of eternal night
By adamg on Wed, 03/04/2009 - 9:26am
Seems 'FNX cancelled some goth ball but never bothered to notify the people who'd won tickets to it:
... Can you imagine showing up at Hurricane O'Reilly's dressed up like your inner goth fag? Nothing like getting your latex-wearing ass kicked by a bunch of drunken jocks or frat boys on the streets outside the Banknorth Garden. It's not that I could give a crap whether or not I go to your stupid goth ball. Just get your heads out of your collective ass, please. ...

How far in advance did they cancel?
who dat?
I was a faithful FNX listener from day one, but when they got their current morning show that has an actual name and is staffed by out-of-towners who have unfunny aliases and who laugh at each other's unfunny jokes - continually, that spot on my dial went dark. Now it's WERS or internet radio (WOXY vintage is especially good). I feel sorry for Henry Santoro, a truly funny and talented personality. He must feel like Babe Ruth with the Boston Braves.
Oh noooooooooes!
Out-of-towners? Oh my! No one ever moves to a new city!
Unfunny aliases? Is Lanny Budd your real name? If so, I am sorry.
Do we not play enough Roxy Music for you?
Can't say I am sad to see you go.
I personally like the WFNX
I personally like the WFNX morning team, they are entertaining, play some music, and you even get some news/sports out of it.
Its possible that they are just not playing to certain demographics. I would say it is obviously aimed at the male 16-40 demographic, which is obvious from the pop culture references and humor employed.
I also like that fact that it sounds like I make a little more then Special Ed (I dont make allot of money by any means) and were about the same age. Im basing that off of their morning conversations and what not.
On a side note, I seriously doubt this poster is the real deal, it sounded a little too cliche for it to be real. I guess I'll find out tomorrow, maybe during Mega Robo Thunder Phone Query where the question involves Universal Hub...
Before you attack a fellow poster's bona fides....
...you should do a little review of their previous messages. (It's easy, just click on the poster's name -- and then click on "track" on the profile page that opens). If people _had_ done this, they could have seen that Lanny Budd has been posting here for a good while -- and on a wide variety of topics.
Addendum: Possibly Shady Milk Man (unlike Ed) was questioning the bona fides not of Lanny Budd, but of Ed himself. Since Ed is not registered, _he_ obviously has no (verifiable) history here. ;~}
Im talking about Ed... Calm
I made a snarky response, and in the mean time you added an addendum.
I was refering to Ed, his only links to the FNX home page.
I was already amending my posting....
...as you were writing your response.
In extenuation I would note that your pronouns' references were a bit vague.
;~}
FWIW -- Ed's home page is blocked, here where I work.
Here come the meh meme
Not the point. I moved here once. Much of Boston is come fromers. It was just indicative of managerial cluelessness that they thought they had to go out and fetch some haha crew when there was an abundance of local talent.
Literacy has taken a grievous hit if we have forgotten who Lanny Budd was.
But I like Roxy Music. And Fleet Foxes. And Do. And Lykke Li. It isn't the FNX music. It's the unforgivable amount of giggling like little girls at things which are just not funny.
You can't see me go. It's radio.
Grievous hit to literacy
You might note that if Lanny Budd finished his journey towards complete obscurity, it would have no effect on anybody's literacy. (Look that up if you don't know what it means).
Your loss, my gain
The Sandbox put FNX back on my dial. Both my wife and I think they're funny.
Now if FNX would just stop playing the same songs over and over again... nothing ruins music more than hearing it too much.
That's not my name
Fleet Foxes
Kings of Leon
Give it a break, guys... It's gotten to the point where I change the station when you put the music on.
[Nodding]
I didn't know or care that they're out of towners, but otherwise agree completely. There's no shortage of morning shows which do nothing but talk and laugh at each other's jokes. FNX *used* to be different. I remember a few months before the Sandbox started, FNX was running a promo mocking the "wacky" names of the T&R show on BCN. Then, a few months later, they've got a guy calling himself "Special Ed" on their own airwaves.
That said, I'd hate it if this cancellation was an indication that FNX is in serious financial trouble. I still enjoy Kramer, Jim, Driscoll, etc. I'm sure they could re-hire Swayse at cheap rates and put on a much better morning show at 1/3 the cost....
heheh, Ed, that was pretty
heheh, Ed, that was pretty funny.
But no response to the actual story? Lame.
special ed----troll
this guy loves to read the message boards. the morning show used to have a local blogger on every week and the local blog was usually filled with lots of insults regarding the show. ed had a reply to every comment that wasnt positive. troll. toucher and rich rule.
This article from Dig is a
This article from Dig is a bit harsh and now appears to not even be accurate. Oh right they compete with Phoenix owned Stuff for essentially the same demo. Upon further inspection the story appears to be submitted by "Dig Reader."
Back to the (off) topic. The morning show is really the only one I can listen to now. When I want to listen to talk/music I listen to FNX otherwise its ipod when I want just music. Sure they might not be from here originally, but who cares really. At least it's not nationally syndicated crap.
I also enjoy the show's rotating guest list. But you know what might be cool. Adam or someone in a similar position talking about local blogs and local hot issues beyond the headlines of the globe.
Oh, cruel world!
This is by no means an "article." Oh, Cruel World! is a recurring anonymously submitted column supplied by our readership.

The 2008 goth ball was sponsored by the adult section of the Phoenix (how nice) and ads ran on WFNX, which I would have to assume is where the author got the idea that FNX was sponsoring it. Regardless, Phoenix Media did contribute to the event and failed to inform its consumer base that the event had in fact been canceled.
I don't think any of us here at Dig HQ would consider Stuff our competition, either.
Fact remains it happened in
Fact remains it happened in your borders, and you are a news source... It did seem like a nice little cheap shot at WFNX .
Oh my!
So much to take in I don't know where to start!
1. It really is me. I promise.
2. I didn't pick my name; it was bestowed upon me years ago. Truth be told I hate it. What can you do?
3. I don't think responding to criticism of, or lies about, our show/station is trolling. It is my understanding that all of the winners were called and told about the cancellation.
To Lanny:
1. It is not my job to judge talent. The people in charge decided to expand their search beyond the city limits. I feel like they might know more about running a radio station than you or I do.
2. I am more of Stephen King fan.
3. We can try to titter or guffaw if you like.
4. Oh, I can see you. Look outside.
Thanks to those of you who enjoy the show. Not much I can do for those of you that don't.
