Man with gun in Harvard Square triggered brief shelter-in-place alert
Harvard sent out alerts about "a report of a man with a gun in the area of Smith Campus Center" - formerly the Holyoke Center - in the heart of Harvard Square around 3:30 p.m. The alert was called off not long after - after Cambridge Police found and arrested the man.
The initial alert from Harvard read:
Shelter in place. If outside go inside a Harvard building. If in a building stay where you are.
Cambridge Police reported:
A suspect reportedly lifted his shirt and displayed a gun in his waistband to 2 men; was described as wearing a red, white and blue vest over a white hooded sweatshirt; black rimmed glasses.
At 3:53 p.m., Harvard rescinded the stay-in-place directive:
The individual has been apprehended and is in custody. The shelter in place is lifted.
H/t Tony Corsentino, Yawp and Emma.

See Something, Say Something
In action! Well done.
Truth be told
There's a lot of triggered people in Harvard Sq
Perhaps
At least people can hold hands with their same gender spouse walking down the street without "triggering" a "sensitive snowflake".
I don't know
Seems more like they triggered you.
Yeah
reacting to the presence of an armed assailant by staying out of sight is totally a thing that only today's fragile Millenial snowflakes would do. Whereas you, brave anon, would certainly just have marched up to the gunman, dick swinging bravely in the wind, and disarmed him before the cops could even get there.
Completely off topic but...
Why did they change the name of Holyoke Center? I used to temp there in the 1970's.
Renamed after donors
from the building's page:
Seem like good philanthropists
They gave a ton of money to Dana Farber among others places and made their money in retail and movie theaters.
A nice change from the Sacklers and Epstein contingent of donors to local institutions.
