Scituate St. Patrick's Day parade cancelled, too

The Scituate St. Patrick's Day parade, the smaller family-friendly alternative to South Boston's, is "Postponed indefinitely", according to its web page. "Check back in about 30 days for an update", they add.
Scituate joins South Boston, Lawrence, Newport RI, and many other locations that have postponed or cancelled these parades (including New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Savannah, Chicago, and San Francisco).

Now Baker and Walsh should do the right thing
And direct the BAA to cancel the Marathon now, instead of waiting until just before the event to make the announcement.

A few weeks ago, Tokyo withdrew all but the most 'elite' few hundred runners from its marathon. At the time that felt like a drastic overreaction, but all of us who said that were wrong.
Use triathlon bike rules
You can't be within some number of bike lengths of another competitor (to prevent drafting). Marathon runners must be 8' behind the person in front of them and if passed need to slow down to establish that distance.

Unless the disease curve drops off a cliff world-wide soon, Ron, I think that's the least they can get away with doing. Keep the elites, anybody using it as an Olympic qualifier on Patriots Day. Set a date in September for the how-many-ever thousands of other runners.
This also limits how long spectators hang out watching the event
If it has only 'elite' runners, all of them will pass by any particular location within a few minutes of each other.

Nah. Keep the roads open. One public works arrow truck and a couple of police cruisers drive the first 25 miles at 12&1/2 mph. Anybody who fall behind the pace gets eliminated. Just close the last 1.2 miles on Beacon and Boylston and the remaining runners go to a dead sprint for the finish line.

Nope. Time to just cancel it. It only takes one or two people who are unknowingly infected to spread it to many who they then unknowingly do the same. We need our health care workers to stay healthy and people who work at pharmacies and grocery stores to stay healthy.
I don't think there's any way Baker will allow it.
Not if he wants to keep his "responsible public health executive" credentials.
The BAA needs to find a face-saving way to stop it, and they need to do that now.

The more immediate question is if Baker discontinues MBTA service. (Intentionally, that is.)
