Guy charged with trying to rob blind man in Copley Square
Shortly before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, police say, Brian Buhamiizo, 38, went up to a legally blind man on Boylston Street near Ring Road, grabbed his cane, said he had a gun and demanded money.
The victim was able to break away from the suspect and call 911 with the assistance of the witnesses on scene. Responding officers soon stopped a suspect matching the description provided by those witnesses in the area of 699 Boylston Street where he was placed in custody after being positively identified.
Police say they did not find a gun, but Buhamiizo was charged with attempted armed robbery because the charge depends on whether the victim believes the perpetrator was armed. He was also charged with assault and battery on a disabled person and threats to commit a crime, police say.
