Man charged with two rapes in Radisson garage

A man charged with raping two women in the garage of the Radisson Hotel on Stuart Street was ordered held in lieu of $1 million bail following his arraignment today, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office says.
Jose Rivera is charged with raping one woman on April 19 and another early this morning, the DA's office says, adding the April 19 victim was a worker at the hotel going to her job. Rivera's probation on an unrelated assault conviction in West Roxbury District Court was also revoked.

The following is from a press release from the Suffolk County DA's office:
[Special Assistant District Attorney Dara] Kesselheim told the court of two attacks on women in the garage of the Radisson Hotel on Stuart Street, one at about 6:30 a.m. on April 19 and the other shortly before 3:00 this morning.
Kesselheim said Boston Police were dispatched to Massachusetts General Hospital after the first attack and spoke to the victim, who said she had just parked her car on the fifth floor of the hotel garage and was headed toward the elevator when she was approached by a man who asked for directions out of the hotel.
After the woman gave him directions, she noticed that he continued to follow her. She became fearful, Kesselheim said, and began to run. Her assailant at this point grabbed her from behind.
The woman screamed and the assailant struck her in the face. He picked her up from behind and threatened to throw her off the ledge, Kesselheim said, before demanding, "Do you have $100 or do you want to die?"
Rivera allegedly removed the woman's pants and undergarments by force. When she screamed, Rivera allegedly covered her mouth and threatened to "harm her further" if she continued, Kesselheim said.
Rivera allegedly exposed himself and assaulted her sexually until a passerby saw what was happening and rushed to assist. When the assailant fled, the witness gave chase but lost him when he entered an elevator.
This morning's attack took place on the second floor of the same garage, Kesselheim told the court. The victim ran from the scene and reported the attack to a Boston Police officer working a detail on Stuart Street.
The woman told investigators that she had been grabbed from behind by her assailant and dragged to a nearby stairwell. He allegedly struck her in the face, grabbed her jaw, and pulled her hair, making statements about "what he was going to do to her," Kesselheim said.
The man allegedly threw her on the ground, removed her pants and underwear, and sexually assaulted her. The woman was able to escape and ran from the area, Kesselheim said, and was subsequently transported to New England Medical Center.
Kesselheim said that Boston Police assigned to the case were at New England Medical Center when they learned of a patient in the building who matched the description of the assailant in both cases. That man was soon identified as Rivera. He was never in the same room as the victim.
Rivera was taken into custody and transported to the Boston Municipal Court in a hospital gown.
"Goddamn, your honor," he exclaimed upon hearing the judge's bail order.

which leads me to think that even in his fake world he could be having fake sex with a higher caliber of fake hooker.
personally i would say i had been having unprotected sex with a $2000 prostitute.

When will women stop being fair game for rapists? It has to stop. Rape is an epidemic in our society, yet where is the mayor on this? The governor? The president? What has to happen to get this issue on the radar screens of elected officials?
Sexism is the big problem:
Women are fair game because far too many men (though certainly not all) here in the United States and worldwide have the attitude that women are just that: fair game. When that kind of thinking changes, so might the incidence of women getting raped.

"Far too many"? How many is too many? One? How many "in the US and worldwide" think women are "fair game" for rape? Any number at all? Then that's "far" more than one? Wow, what amazing insight.
Rape is a crime of power and assertion over someone else. Women are going to stop getting raped when criminals stop needing power and then determining that a woman is what that criminal needs power over. That's just the root evil of *crime* and that's not going away, so rape is going to be around for a while. There's no gumdrop land where rape just stops happening one day just like there's never going to be a place where murder, robbery, and corruption just up and disappear.
Women have an onus to reduce their chances at being a victim of rape. Once reasonable attempts are made to do just that, then if they are still raped, there's little to do but accept that they were a victim and seek justice against the criminal who perpetrated the crime. The same thing could happen to all of us and it's not just by rape. Crime exists, we can only deal with the consequences if it occurs in the face of our best preventative measures.

Kaz--I, too am aware that rape is a crime of violence, domination and power over a woman by a sadistic male, and, most of the time (like 80-90% of the time), the rapist and his victim know each other in some way; as friends, acquaintances, or even family members. Moreover, it's often true that that closer the relationship between the rapist and his victim was, the more brutal the attack. The fact that most rapists and their victims know each other in some way or other has a great deal to do with the fact that most rapes go on prosecuted and the rapists often end up being acquitted.
This is not to say that women don't get raped by strangers, because it can and does happen. Again, however, that's not how it is most of the time, and, as long as women continue to be regarded as "property", as they are all too often, in our society and throughout the world, and unless more people speak out and condemn the crime of rape for what it is, "public outrage will be muted as well".
Also, Kaz, there are no numbers to be had when it comes to the number of males in our society and throughout the world who view women as "fair game", because the numbers are untold, if one gets the drift. Being a victim is not acceptable, no matter if it's at the hands of an acquaintence or a stranger.

but rape really shouldn't be talked about as just a crime of violence against women by men. it's an oversimplification of the crime, because not all rape victims are women, and not all perpetrators are men. true, the statistical deck is stacked in favor of the traditional gender roles, but no one is even sure by how much. gays, lesbians, and men are all likely to under-report being victims of rape, and women don't get prosecuted as much. so the statistics will continue to be slanted.
women are raped more often, and men commit it more often... however, to talk about rape like the only form is male on female violence is simply not true.

"No way! It doesn't have to stop! More rape in '09!" Get real, who exactly do you think your opponents are on this issue? You think there are people out there who think rapists should get fair shots at more women and that they're winning the War on Rape or something?
I mean, what kind of nonsense is "When will women stop being fair game for rapists?". Do you think people *want* women to be raped or something? Who in the world thinks women are "fair game"? Don't be stupid.
As for politicians, what do you want them to do? Up the punishment for rape? Do you really think it's the lack of fear of punishment that makes rapists do what they do? Get real. Rape, murder, whatever...as long as there is a perpetrator, a motive, and a means, they're going to do it. You just can't stop it from happening by wishing it so or whining about it or talking tough from a pulpit.
The best chance you have at not being a victim is to reduce your likelihood of being a victim. Otherwise, there are bad people in the world and they make victims out of good ones. We can only hope to get justice afterwards once it happens. But blather like women being fair games for rapists...that bellicose rhetoric is nonsensical.
