Man charged with slicing jogger on East Boston Greenway in August

Boston Police report arresting an East Boston man on charges he tried to stab a woman as she jogged on the East Boston Greenway between Maverick and Orleans streets around 10:15 a.m. on Aug. 20.

The woman managed to avoid serious injury as the man came at her with a knife, but did receive minor cuts, police say.

Oscar Umana-Tejeda, 26, was arrested yesterday a couple blocks away from the scene, on Paris Street, police say.

He was charged with aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, police say.

Are there BPD call boxes on that path? I've walked above it (via Maverick Street) and since its in a gully of an old rail road bed, it seems like there's no way in or out except for the walk on paths from city streets.

I run this route regularly and there are call boxes. I think I will start running with a self defense tool.
