Citizen complaint of the day: Red-stained protest at Christopher Columbus Park
By adamg on Mon, 10/11/2021 - 2:58pm
A concerned citizen filed a 311 complaint about the protest graffiti on the base where Christopher Columbus used to stand in the North End until he was decapitated last year.
With no statue left to deface or knock down, the protester could only spray paint messages on the base and on the sign that tells you the name of the park.

No better way to honor Christopher Columbus
Than to discover something that was already there and lots of people knew about, and then try to destroy it
That should be fill in the
That should be fill in the blank:
"No better way to honor Indigenous Peoples than __________________."
You're not going to throw red paint at the executives, are you?
The Keebler people were very upset.
Irony
The monument is on a filled part of the harbor.
Mmm, but what what was it filled with?
;-)
To Be Honest
There are a lot of old ship hulks, ship ballast (rocks), and in there so you can smirk, but this was being slowly filled in before Atlantic Avenue opened in 1848. It wasn't just fill from Boston's hills, which a lot of Beacon Hill is now the Bulfinch Triangle and South Station is Fort Hill.

The Protestor
Is a vandal and should be charged with defacing private property.
neither the park nor the statue
are private property..
As we all know
Columbus Day was created as an Italian Heritage day and not as a celebration of Columbus. Therefore anyone defacing the statue around what would be the celebration of that day is defacing Italian heritage and therefore committing a hate crime. We should seek out this racist vandal and punish them.
ok, but please
Do not call anyone a tomato or people around here will have fainting spells.
That’s like saying we should
That’s like saying we should have a holiday called Adolf Hitler day to celebrate German Americans. If it was to celebrate Italian Americans shouldn’t it celebrate an Italian American, and one who did something benevolent?
You're gonna do yourself an injury...
...reaching that far.
Farrrrrrrr in the distance…
Farrrrrrrr in the distance…
There are many more worthy Italians to honor Italian heritage
...than someone who's story and reputation is a lie propped up by generations of incorrectly or poorly attributed history. And if that's going to happen in this country, shouldn't that honor go to an Italian American?
