Former Boston man sues Web site that claims he manhandled women during sex

Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy today sued a news site that wrote last fall that he engaged in violent, scary sex with young women even though, he charges, it and its reporters knew that simply isn't true.

Portnoy, a Swampscott native who once lived in Dorchester Lower Mills and who started out distributing copies of the then paper edition of Barstool Sports on the T, filed his suit in US District Court in Boston. Although Barstool long ago decamped for New York, Portnoy says he is now lives in Nantucket and that Boston federal court is as good a place as any to sue Insider, Inc., because it spread its allegedly smears in Massachusetts, among other places.

Portnoy's complaint (1.2M PDF).

He’s from Swampscott. The Barstoll HQ was located in Milton, near the trolley station at the Milton/Boston border.

Thanks. Yes, the complaint says he started Barstool in Milton, probably when he lived in Lower Mills and tried to run for mayor of Boston, only he couldn't find competent enough signature collectors to get him on the ballot.

His baker chocolate factory centered political dynasty was doomed from the start.

He has lived in the South End and Nantucket for years, but yes let's do guilt by association on Lower Mills because somebody lived there a long time ago.

I don't see anything about "guilt by association", looks like someone's just correcting Adam on some facts. Or are you responding to some other anonymous comment that only you know exists somehow again?

is and always has been a toxic soup of misogyny, vile clickbait, and empty-headed celebration of vacuous bro culture, but I just want to appreciate the irony of the name of the linked complaint here. Lurid indeed.

Portnoy has retained Andrew Brettler, who represents Prince Andrew and Christopher Noth in their civil cases. He also represented Bill Cosby, Armie Hammer and Ryan Adams.
