Masks still required on the T
By adamg on Tue, 04/19/2022 - 10:39am
Update: Required no more.
At least as of 8:41 a.m., so don't go yelling at the driver about that judge in Florida.

Two years on ...
..and I still wanna ask those who are "not gonna wear one" if they cover their mouths and nose when they sneeze.
But I don't wanna deal with them going bat-@$x! crazy on me. Plus they might start not covering themselves when they sneeze just to prove "muh freedum!".
(don't get me wrong. I can do bat-@$x! crazy back and even best in craziness, but I'm older and wiser now so I don't engage the crazy.)
for not much longer
Not for much longer..
You know, I already feel strange wearing a mask in the supermarket. (I want to wear one) Thankfully some store employees still wear them so I don't look like a fool. Its just eventually people will stop wearing them and the ones who wear them will look like they are weird or unvaxxed or something.
Just meh.. odd having that feeling of people moving away from you when you want to remain safe.
(and tbh, like many have said.. I like wearing a mask in tight spaces. Virtually no colds for 2 years so thats more than enough reason for me to keep wearing them)
Kinda hope some mask wearing continues
It would be nice for those who need or want to wear a mask to not stand out so much. Like those who have cancer and others who have low immunity. Especially for kids who have low immunity. It's so hard being a kid and not blending in.
Many who have allergies have said they've learned that mask wearing leads to them having much fewer symptoms. They plan to continue to wear them.
So here's hopin' people are more accepting and/or indifferent to those who continue to wear masks and don't yell at or harass those who do.
Eh
I just tell myself that a mask looks better than a ventilator. Works for me.
My advice to you, then
Get vaccinated.
Aren't you one of those people...
...who love to point out that vaccinations don't 100% prevent infection whenever it seems convenient for your agenda du jour?
(thanks for your deeply felt concern, btw, but I am vaccinated, and I'm also not a fool)
ETA: the comment I was responding to concerned the douchebaggery of busybodies who get in the face of people who choose to wear masks, and your response to that was to...be a busybody.
Looking at a mirror, are you?
Anyway, I believe that vaccinations do not prevent infections, mainly because that is what the data has been showing. This is why that part of the narrative has been largely jettisoned by the scientific community. That said, the second part of why you should get vaccinated- that those who are vaccinated are much, much less likely to even be hospitalized for Covid, let alone end up on ventilators- is still very much true.
That said, since you are vaccinated, and I assume boosted, why are you worried about unmasked people in places where people had to wear masks a week ago leading you to the ICU? Why are you being a busybody about all of this?
Overall, why should the average person care either way about whether people are wearing masks at the grocery store, the mall, or now on the T? Personal choice, though now the N95 might be more in vogue for some.
Prevent infections, or *reduce* infections?
A vaccine need not be 100% effective in order to still be useful and recommended.
I'm not against vaccines
I've been vaxed and boosted (though from what I've read, a second boost might not be worth it at this time.)
We were totally sold the idea that getting vaccinated prevents infection. Even in the pre-omicron era, that idea was less than solid. Conversely, the data has shown that getting vaccinated can help if one gets infected, which brings me around to the idea that if one is afraid of going on a ventilator, being vaxed is much better than making sure everyone around you wears a mask.
No we werent
No we weren’t. Not for COVID, nor for flu, not for smallpox, or measles, or rubella, or for anything else we’ve been vaccinated for.
Anyone who has taken high school biology understand that vaccines strengthen immunity but don’t make it perfect: that vaccines reduce the likelihood of infection but don’t eliminate it. Anyone who has taken middle school math understands the probability logic behind herd immunity and how even deeply imperfect protection of individuals provides a very high degree of protection to the population as a whole if enough individuals acquire partial immunity.
Give me an honest answer to this question
Think back a year or so ago (I don't know exactly when you got your first shot, but I assume a bit more than a year ago) and honestly say why you got vaccinated?
I remember clearly reading things last springthat were claiming that vaccinations would prevent infection. I got vaccinated with the hope that I could help "stop the spread." In the end, the most reported infections in the Boston area, and more importantly the highest viral load reported in the MWRA system, came when 80% of the population were vaccinated and when boosters were being administered.
Oh please, Mr. Busybody
Because your rights end where my nose begins, and where you spray your plague rat droplets is very much my concern. You cannot possibly, at this point in the pandemic, not get this, so you are simply being disingenuous in pursuit of a pointless agenda.
Oh, someone gets "the science"
But sorry, a coronavirus is quite different than the bubonic plague.
But again, haranguing someone about not wearing a mask when it is not required is basically the same thing as haranguing someone for wearing a mask when it is not required, in that it is the tool of, as you have aptly named it, a busybody.
In this country?
Yeah, right.
And it's a lot better here than in most of the US.
Do people really move away
Do people really move away from you because you wear a mask? I'm glad I don't go to places like that.
Personally, it's the people without masks who I move away from.
As of noon...
...the "federal law mask requirement" message (or however it is worded) was still being announced and scrolled on the T platforms. Which is of course now incorrect, even if the T hasn't decided on its its own response yet.
I will most probably continue wearing masks as well.
Redundant post - Ignore
.
I am wearing my mask until
I am wearing my mask at least until the CDC declares the COVID-19 pandemic is over. I actually kind of like wearing one.
I’m wearing mine…
I’m wearing mine in indoor public spaces until the sewage count reported by the MWRA goes back below 200 copies/ml and stays there for a month. I had mine off for a couple of weeks between the end of Omicron and the current rising trend, but it’s back on now.
As an aside, 2 years without a cold or flu has been great; I used to count on one really bad one per winter, that would usually end up with me coughing my head off and sucking on an inhaler for a couple of weeks.
