I'm breaking up with BMC with great reluctance, after relying on them for most of my medical care for a few years. I love my NP and they've taken good care of me. But every time I walk through the door, they send me three huge and totally incomprehensible bills--one from the doctor, one from the hospital, one from the lab.
They recently charged my lady $1600 ("adjusted" down to about $700) for a 15-minute routine physical with a couple of blood tests and a vaccine. The vaccine charge alone was triple the going rate. It took us six months to figure out what all the charges on all the different bills were for. We've gotten nowhere trying to reason with BMC about it. She is appealing it and writing the AG's office.
I don't want to lob accusations without knowing what the F is going on there, but it sure looks from my fly's eye view like they're milking their privately-insured folks for all they're worth in an effort to stay afloat. I believe in BMC, I gave them a charitable donation last year, and I'm gonna keep that up, but I can't afford to be their patient anymore.
I'm glad to see our local paper of record has the story. Oh wait, no, this is about BMC, not Newton/Wellesly. At least we can get intown news by going out of town.
Wasn't there when I checked. Not on the boston.com main page, nor did it come up under a search. So maybe they've got it now, but it wasn't there at first. They were scooped by the evil parent.
No, that's incorrect. It was in the daily newspaper which often has different content than on the boston.com website. The link I provided was to the newspaper, which is published online every morning, by around 5:45 AM, if I'm not mistaken.
The story was written for the newspaper, it appeared the same morning (today) as in the Times.
John is right about the Globe. I linked to the Times version because, well, I happened to see it first is all.
Looks like boston.com and the Globe still have some integration issues to work out, or something. Take a look at this page which lists all the stories in today's paper (so this will only work today).
The hospitals all got together and sued the state years ago over the payment methodology. They wanted something more simple. They wanted to be paid a flat rate per patient. They wanted the payment to be adjusted yearly based on an average of the previous years total charges. That is exactly what they got. Now they are going to complain?

I'm not saying the parent isn't evil, of course.
Sorry for any confusion
