As if constant Blue Line delays weren't enough: Man refuses to give seat up to a senior, so the senior tries to strangle him, police say

Transit Police report arresting a man at Aquarium on the Blue Line last night for allegedly attacking another man who refused to give up his seat.

Samuel Dario Carrero, 64, boarded an outbound train around 11 p.m. and when a seated man declined to give up his seat, put his hand's around the man's neck and began choking him.

He was charged with strangulation or suffocation, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in state prison.

Innocent, etc.

The New Boston Strangler sounds like he had transit rage.

11pm on the blue line on a Thursday night?

Was every seat full? Doubt it.

People really are off their rocker these days.

The blue line has similar ridership pattern to the rest of the system but also has a mini eve peak.

Ridership dips after the pm rush but bounces up in the eve for a short spell.

While I don't know this days circumstances it's possible train delays can cause crowding on any line during any part of the day as well - not an unrealistic possibility.

Yeah the second shifters (3-11 crowd) getting off work.

or at least, full enough for there not to be seats.

add that to broken trains, broken signals, the T just flat out giving up on arrival predictions, the mini heat wave, and whatever else this person had going on in his life.. and .. there you go.

If this guy is strong enough to strangle someone, I am pretty sure he doesn't need the seat!

I had this same thought. I think there's some people out there who are very entitled. That they somehow things are owed to them when in reality the accomodations exist for those that need them, not those that think they deserve them. If you can attack someone in such a way you most likely just think you deserve it but don't actually need it.

You need to be 65 to get a senior pass on the MBTA.
