Seems Massachusetts has little people living in forests, too, but of course ours are scraggly and mean

New England Folklore discusses Massachusetts pukwudgies, which are sort of like leprechauns or fairies, only ours are covered in dank, matted fur and like to lure people to fall off cliffs.

Specifically: A woman in Norwell reports two encounters with a pukwudgie, one while walking a dog near one of the swamps where they apparently live on March 1 and again on March 13.

They're the type of fairy you'd expect to see in the woods around here, which are rough, rocky, and filled with poison ivy.

Pukwudgies appear widely in Native American folklore. Some tribes considered them just mischievous, but the Wampanoag tribe considered them to be murderous little jerks--in one story they killed all the sons of Wampanoag giant Moshup.

Also, just for the record, on the spectrum of cryptids known to be lurking in the Bridgewater Triangle area, pukwudgies rate roughly a Ben Stein in Ferris Bueller's Day Off on the excitement meter. You cannot compete with thunderbirds.

(The Bridgewater Triangle documentary is sheer unintentional comedy gold, by the way...)
