Body found on I-93 at Medford/Somerville line; morning backup reaches 10 miles
By adamg on Tue, 06/13/2023 - 8:14am
NBC Boston report State Police found a man's body on I-93 southbound just past the Mystic Avenue exit about 4:30 a.m.
Lanes were shut due to the investigation, causing a 10-mile backup. MassDOT says:
Drivers traveling southbound into Boston should anticipate major impacts and delays during the morning commute, consider traveling at another time or on another route, or consider using public transportation options, including the MBTA Orange Line or MBTA Commuter Rail for trips into Boston.

And the Orange Line was running
with 16 to 20 minute headways. Add in the Green Line closure between North Station and Government Center - which will be in place until June 25, and it hasn’t been a fun rush hour.
Credit where due, etc
The longest Orange Line headway out of OG this morning has been 14 minutes, averaging about 11.
Anyone else old enough to remember when the new cars were supposed to give us 4.5 minute headways?
Was going by the signs and announcements
which said 20 minutes at one point before I gave up waiting and started walking. However, I shouldn’t be surprised that they wouldn’t be entirely accurate.
And I do remember the claim of 4.5 minute headways.
Was this along the bike path?
Several sections of fence between the path and the highway still need to be replaced and there seem to be a lot of people bending and damaging the rusted out sections. We got one section replaced right in that area after it fell into the path, snagged my husband and threw him from his bike, so I'm vigilant about the condition of additional sections.
The jurisdiction is so fuzzy that it took sometime to decide who that fence section belonged to - DCR, Medford, Somerville, or MassDOT. I suspect MassDOT took care of it because our son is one of theirs and went all out. All this makes for a jurisdictional netherworld of the sort that attracts people who want to disappear and be alone with their demons.
It would not surprise me if the departed person was unhoused and/or suffering from substance abuse disorder. Sad for all involved.
Nope
'just pass the Mystic Ave exit' puts the unfortunate soul about half a mile from the nearest point on the newly-extended Path.
Talking about the I-93 Bikepath
Not the GLX path.
Sorry if I confused you. In case you don't know, there is a bike path that runs along the river all the way from the middle schools in Medford to Rt. 99 near Sullivan Square.
To get to that overpass they would have had to scale the fences from the bike path between the river and the highway.
Map of the Area.
The man jumped
